What’s New for SAP Integrated Product Development
Welcome to the June 2026 blog! This update introduces powerful enhancements designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen collaboration, and improve efficiency across the product lifecycle. With expanded engineering capabilities and deeper integration with SAP and partner solutions, it further enhances how teams work together—from concept through manufacturing and beyond.
Formulation
Allowed and default UoMs for recipes
You can now define allowed UoMs and a default UoM for recipe formulas using the Configure Parameters for Formulation app.
This improvement lets you restrict the UoMs available for formula items and helps ensure consistent data across recipes.

Add notes for formula items
Product developers can now enter notes for formula items directly in the recipe to provide additional details and context.
- A new Note column is available in the formula table, allowing users to enter free-text notes for each formula item (excluding process elements).
- The Note column is also included when you export the formula to a spreadsheet.
In addition, the Note field is now supported in the Formulation API, allowing notes to be created and updated when working with recipes via APIs.

Using process parameters for recipes
Product developers can now define and manage Process Parameters directly within recipe formulation, enabling more precise control and better documentation of production conditions such as temperature, pressure, and processing time.
Key enhancements include:
- A new Configure Process Parameters app to create and manage process parameters.
- A dedicated Process tab in the Manage Recipes app, allowing process parameters to be assigned to individual process elements or the entire recipe.
- An enhanced Formulation API that now supports reading process parameter data, making process-related information available for seamless system integrations.

Support for cross-dimensional UoMs for scaling quantities
Formula scaling is now more flexible, allowing product developers to scale quantities using Units of Measure (UoMs) from different dimensions while maintaining consistency and accuracy.
With this enhancement:
- When scaling based on a formula item in the proportion dimension, the Target UoM field displays only proportion-based units.
- When scaling based on a formula item from any non-proportion dimension, the Target UoM field automatically displays only the relevant units for that dimension.

Support for cross-dimension UoMs in formula calculations
Formula calculations of the Attribute-Based type can now be configured and performed using UoMs from different dimensions.

Updates to country/region validity
The recipe object page has been enhanced with several UI and UX improvements to simplify how country/region validity is managed:
- Country/region validities can now be created and managed directly from the General tab, eliminating the need for the Manage Validities button in the Calculations tab.
- The filter previously named Validity Country/Region has been renamed to Country/Region Validity for a more consistent user experience.
- The Country/Region Validity filter has been moved from the Calculations tab to the General tab, bringing related functionality together.
- A new Country/Region Validity field has been added to the recipe header, allowing product developers to view, update, or define the validity area from any tab within the recipe. The field stays synchronized with the value selected in the General tab.

Support for cross-dimensional UoMs in Formulation API
The Formulation API has been enhanced to support creating and updating recipes using units of measure (UoMs) from different dimensions. Additionally, you can now assign specifications and products to output streams directly through the API.
These enhancements expand the API's capabilities, enabling more flexible integrations, streamlining recipe management, and improving automation across formulation processes.

Usability improvements
In the Hand Over of Recipe Formulation, you can now hand over to the Master Recipe in addition to the BOM. This enhancement provides flexibility by allowing you to derive either only the BOM or both the Master Recipe and BOM. The Master Recipe offers a complete view of manufacturing steps, ensuring process visibility, consistency with BOM and Routing APIs, and seamless integration into SAP S/4HANA for process orders and compliance.

In the Hand Over Engineering Bills of Material (EBOM), you can now use the new Merge user interface (UI) in the Target panel to consolidate identical components or assemblies. This enhancement helps reduce redundancy and improve efficiency by allowing you to merge items with the same material name, unit of measure, and category, either automatically within an assembly or manually by selecting specific components.

In the Hand Over Engineering Bills of Material (EBOM), you can now see a lock icon in the Target panel status column when the same BOM is already being used in another handover. This ensures that users are notified when a BOM is in use elsewhere and helps prevent unintended parallel maintenance.

In the Hand Over Recipe Formulation to Bills of Material, you can now add text to recipe ingredients in the Target BOM during planning.

Product Data Integration
Define User-specific Layouts
It is now possible to define user specific layouts (variants) in the Design Item Explorer app.

Variable Size Items
Managing components such as tubes, cables, pipes, and bars just became more efficient with the latest enhancement in Product Data Integration (PDI).
With this enhancement, you can now use Variable Size Items to define the length of infinitely long components (supporting up to three dimensions) directly within a CAD assembly. This introduces an additional CAD modeling method that seamlessly transfers variable size item data into the enterprise product structure.
How it works:
- Each variable size item, together with its CAD-maintained dimensions stored as part attributes, is created as a separate design item.
- Set the design item's Derivation Mode to “Variable Size Item” to identify it correctly.
- In the CAD assembly, insert a component representing the raw material. This design item should use the “Include” derivation mode and be linked to the corresponding product representing the raw material.
Derivation of such a structure maintain the variable size item fields of enterprise product structure.

Manage User-specific Settings
The new app enables users to manage their personal settings for Product Data Integration (PDI) and its interfaces with authoring systems.
Users can also create and maintain personal favorite lists for design items, making it easier to quickly access frequently used objects and improve day-to-day productivity

Provide Product and Design Item Properties
Provide Product and Design Item Properties to Authoring Systems
This feature enables integrations to expose Product and Design Item properties to connected authoring systems.
With this enhancement, integrations can:
- Update CAD properties using Product and Design Item properties during data load.
- Trigger update requests for previously loaded designs, such as refreshing drawing header information.
- Provide Product and Design Item data for use in drawing headers, ensuring design documentation remains accurate and up to date.
Property Lists
Product Data Integration (PDI) uses property lists to:
- Extract properties from authoring systems and other external systems.
- Provide properties to authoring systems and other external systems.
With this enhancement, properties defined in the Specification Management – Properties app are now available for use in Product Data Integration. This ensures consistent property definitions across integrated systems and simplifies property management.
