FAQ
-
I’m already using SAP Datasphere. Should I switch to SAP Business Data Cloud?
Not immediately. You can keep using SAP Datasphere as usual. Starting mid-2025, SAP will offer a feature to easily clone your existing spaces into SAP Business Data Cloud, making migration smooth when you are ready.
-
Do I need a new subscription if I already use SAP Datasphere?
Yes. SAP Business Data Cloud has a separate pricing model and requires its own subscription. However, it integrates closely with your existing SAP BTP environment.
-
How is SAP BDC priced compared to Datasphere?
SAP Business Data Cloud uses the same Capacity Units (CUs) as SAP Datasphere, so there’s no separate pricing model for BDC itself. It follows SAP’s usage-based pricing, allowing flexible CU allocation across services like SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud, BW/4HANA PCE, and SAP Databricks, giving you better control of your subscription costs.
-
Will my Datasphere data and configurations carry over to BDC?
While detailed migration steps aren’t published yet, your current data, configurations, and connections in SAP Datasphere are expected to carry over smoothly to SAP Business Data Cloud. It aims for a transition without rebuilding existing setups. Stay updated with SAP’s official documentation for new guidance.
-
Can I pick only the services I need within SAP BDC?
Yes. The CU-based pricing model lets you select only the services you need, such as using SAC and Insight Apps without activating SAP Databricks or BW/4HANA PCE.
-
Are Insight Apps optional?
No. Each BDC subscription requires at least one Insight App license, which offers ready-made dashboards and business-specific analytics.
-
Is there a pricing calculator available for BDC?
Yes. Since April 2025, SAP offers an official online calculator to help estimate costs and size your BDC subscription based on your use case.
-
Can I test SAP BDC before subscribing?
Currently, there is no standalone free trial for SAP BDC. However, SAP Datasphere and SAP Analytics Cloud users already have access to many BDC features. Additionally, SAP Datasphere offers a free trial that includes SAP Analytics Cloud, providing a hands-on experience with key parts of the BDC platform.
-
Is SAP Business Data Cloud now fully available?
Yes. SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) reached General Availability in April 2025. You can subscribe, migrate, and implement it fully with support from your SAP partner.
-
How do I know if BDC is right for my organization?
Begin by reviewing your current data strategy and business goals. As an SAP partner, Saptix can help you evaluate how BDC fits your needs and how to align it with your SAP ecosystem for maximum benefit.
-
How does BDC integrate with existing SAP systems like S/4HANA or ECC?
BDC provides native integration with SAP systems such as S/4HANA, ECC, and BW/4HANA through built-in connectors that support live data access and replication. This allows direct real-time connection to operational data or replication into BDC for analytics, all while maintaining business context.
-
Can I connect non-SAP data sources to BDC?
Yes. BDC supports connections to non-SAP sources using open standards like OData, JDBC, REST APIs, and flat file uploads, enabling unified analysis and reporting across diverse data systems.
-
Is SAP Datasphere being phased out?
No. SAP Datasphere is not being discontinued but is evolving into SAP Business Data Cloud as part of SAP’s goal to unify data services under one cloud-native platform.
-
Will I lose any functionality if I move from Datasphere to BDC?
No functionality is lost when transitioning to BDC. Most features remain and are enhanced with additional services and tighter integration within SAP BTP. Some components might be renamed or repositioned, but core data modeling and semantic layers stay intact and interoperable.
