FAQ
-
What is SAP Advanced Financial Closing (AFC)?
SAP Advanced Financial Closing (AFC) is SAP’s cloud-based solution for orchestrating, automating, and monitoring the financial close process. It is the modern successor to the classic on-premise Financial Closing Cockpit (FCC) — redesigned for the cloud with a modern Fiori user interface and the capability to manage closing tasks across hybrid landscapes (both cloud and on-premise). Unlike a simple checklist tool, AFC acts as an end-to-end orchestration engine that can manage task dependencies and trigger jobs automatically across multiple systems.
-
We already use the Financial Closing Cockpit (FCC). Why should we move to AFC?
AFC delivers three key advantages over the older FCC: Cloud-native innovation – Continuous updates and enhancements from SAP, while FCC has limited future development. Cross-system orchestration – Specifically built to manage closing tasks across multiple systems (e.g., several S/4HANA instances), which is difficult to achieve with FCC. Unified user experience – Integrated with SAP Task Center, offering a single, modern inbox for all closing-related tasks.
-
Is SAP AFC only available for SAP S/4HANA Cloud?
No. While AFC is delivered as a cloud service on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), it can connect to and manage closing processes for multiple systems: SAP S/4HANA Cloud SAP S/4HANA on-premise SAP ECC This makes AFC a central platform for managing financial close across a heterogeneous system landscape.
-
How does the cross-system closing feature work?
AFC uses SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) to establish secure connections to different systems. For SAP systems, AFC can trigger key jobs directly (e.g., depreciation runs, currency revaluation). For non-SAP systems, it can connect through APIs or RPA bots using SAP Build Process Automation, ensuring all activities are coordinated. The result: a single, unified closing plan and dashboard covering your entire enterprise, regardless of underlying technology.
-
Is SAP AFC included in the SAP S/4HANA license?
No. SAP AFC is a separately licensed, subscription-based cloud service offered via the BTP. Pricing is typically based on usage metrics (such as the number of closing tasks per month), not the number of S/4HANA users.
-
How is AFC different from generic task management tools like Jira or Asana?
The main difference is direct system integration: In generic tools, tasks are marked complete manually. In AFC, tasks are directly linked to system jobs (e.g., running a foreign currency revaluation). The system automatically marks them as complete only after the job finishes successfully. This provides real-time, system-verified status tracking, eliminating reliance on manual updates.
