Generative KI: IBM and SAP expand partnership

New partnership “Value Generation” should enable customers to produce greater productivity and offer innovations with new functions for generative AI and industry -specific cloud solutions

Armonk, New York, and WalldorfMay 8, 2024 – IBM and SAP have announced their vision for the expansion of their partnership today. In their context, new functions for generative AI and industry -specific solutions are to be developed so that customers can open up additional added value.

“The common approach of IBM and SAP for generative AI is based on an open partner network, trust and special models. This should help customers optimize their results,” says John Granger, Senior Vice President, IBM Consulting. “Our new partnership” Value Generation “enables customers to implement innovations faster and achieve a competitive advantage. Through generative AI, you lay the basis for a future -oriented company. ”

“It is obvious that we are expanding our partnership with IBM so that more customers can switch to the cloud faster with Rise with SAP and benefit from generative AI in the cloud,” says Scott Russell, Chief Revenue Officer, member of the SAP SE board and head of the Customer Success division. “This extended partnership will open up new opportunities for our common customers because they can create innovations for companies through the cloud, data and AI in order to continue to grow and to realign their company.”

IBM Consulting and SAP build on their decades of partnership and want to accelerate the transformation by Rise with SAP by supporting customers in the following key areas:

  • Future-based AI business processes: Together, companies examine opportunities to develop new functions for generative KI for Rise with SAP and to firmly anchor KI in the SAP business processes of industry-specific cloud solutions and applications for business areas. First, IBM plans to expand the AI functions in the SAP cloud solutions and applications based on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). This includes Rise with SAP, the Grow With SAP solution, financial solutions for the CFO office, solutions for supply chain management and personnel management, solutions from SAP Customer Experience and for Intelligent Spend Management. IBM also plans to use SAP-Signavio and SAP Business AI solutions to define innovative business processes using a Proof-of-Concept program.
  • Future -based innovations in industries: IBM and SAP plan, intelligent industry -specific application scenarios that are based on data -based knowledge to develop continuous business processes in order to promote future -oriented innovations in industries. These scenarios will initially focus on industrial production, the consumer goods industry, trade, internal and external security, the automotive industry and the supply industry. This also includes the latest IBM activities with SAP to develop new AI solutions for the consumer goods industry and trade. As part of this initiative, IBM also plans to develop a comprehensive portfolio of industry-specific AI solutions that will include over 100 AI solutions for various business and implementation solutions. In addition, this planned development will include preconfigured value maps for industries that define innovative business processes and show opportunities for the groundbreaking use of artificial intelligence. Customers will be on all of these new AI solutions about the global locations of the IBM Innovation Studios and SAP Innovation center can access.
  • Future -friendly platform architecture and new customer approach: Future -oriented companies need future -oriented platform architectures and a modern customer approach. IBM intends to provide innovative reference architectures that support a “Clean Core” approach through the “Value Generation” partnership. For this purpose, IBM is planning to use the SAP BTP as well as SAP signavio and leanix solutions. With these new reference architectures, standards for data, process, system and device integration and the linking and automation of processes can be determined. IBM consultants who support customers with SAP projects also have the option of using IBM Consulting Advantage-the IBM platform for AI services-and the portfolio of their own methods, solutions and assistants in order to be able to offer customers reusable and uniform services. With IBM Consulting Advantage, IBM consultants can provide SAP solutions in a new way to increase productivity and reduce risks. To do this, use generative AI, for example for the creation of user stories, test scripts, content for training and change management as well as program code.
  • Expansion of a future -oriented partner network: IBM and SAP plan to expand their partnership based on their respective employees and future -oriented communities. These include the Business Women’s Network at IBM and SAP, the program SAP University Alliancesthe SAP program Veterans to work and veterans at ibm. The aim is to strengthen the work with SAP solutions among employees in consulting and build up the top forces of the next generation. The companies are also looking for new paths to work together in social programs, such as the training of disadvantaged young people in the IT area and the faster integration of social enterprise into global supply chains.
  • Planned availability of Watsonx on the generative AI Hub: The IBM Granite series is to be made available in the SAP portfolio of cloud solutions and applications-based on the generative AI Hub in SAP AI Core. The generative AI Hub enables relevant, reliable and responsible AI for companies and offers direct access to a wide range of large voice models (Large Language Models, LLMS). This makes the cooperation between IBM and SAP at the Embedding of the IBM Watson AI technology in SAP solutions further expanded. In order to further emphasize Watsonx.ai Granite’s skills, IBM Consulting plans to create extensions for selected customers using the model on the generative AI hub.

This initiative builds on the 50-year cooperation between the two companies, which is based on extensive technical know-how, well-founded industry knowledge and expertise. It also underlines how important it is for both companies to develop further in order to focus even better and to meet the requirements of the market.
