Last week we were at the developer conference SAP TechEd Numerous innovations were presented in Berlin. They deliver on our promise to make SAP more open and empower developers like you to work faster and smarter with the tools, languages, and frameworks of your choice.
Develop your own agents on the most context-rich platform for AI agents
The good news is that from December it will generally be possible to set up your own agents Joule Studio to create. The new features include AI-supported design of agents, system-controlled agents, extensibility of the Joule agents offered by SAP, central monitoring of agents, support for the Agent-to-Agent Protocol (A2A) and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). For employees who develop Pro-Code agents, the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) comprehensive support for popular open source frameworks such as Crew.AI and LangGraph, as well as end-to-end identity, permissions, governance and integration capabilities.
MCP support for SAP HANA Cloud is now available and provides direct access to extensive multi-model engines. This allows agents to work in a full data context – for example, analyzing relationships between customers and suppliers, understanding geographical dependencies through location data, and performing semantic searches with vector embeddings – all in a single in-memory engine. Additionally, SAP HANA Cloud’s Knowledge Graph Engine can now automatically generate Knowledge Graphs from SAP HANA Cloud metadata. What used to take weeks to model manually can now be done automatically in just a few minutes. We also enable agentic memory in SAP HANA Cloud. With this “long-term memory,” AI agents can store context across long sessions and, just like humans, remember inputs and decisions from the past. This means they are becoming more and more intelligent.
I am also pleased to see several innovations in the area AI Foundation to announce, including our first Relational Foundation Model (RPT) for enterprise data, SAP-RPT-1, delivered along with a no-code testing environment and prompt optimization service. Our Generative AI Hub is continuously expanding with new features so that development employees can experiment with leading models and orchestration tools and scale AI development and productization in SAP and non-SAP landscapes. New local SAP build MCP server provide development teams with the opportunity to use agent-based tools for the SAP build development and use preferred code assistants such as Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, Cline and Open AI Codex – all while fully complying with the company’s governance and clean core requirements.
An SAP Build extension package for Visual Studio Code is now available that simplifies the development of CAP, Fiori, UI5 and mobile applications. This allows development employees using Visual Studio Code to create and deploy apps to SAP BTP more quickly. In the future, we will release our extensions to the Open VSX Registry to make these tools easier to use and provide similar native development capabilities on other IDEs.

SAP Joule for Developers the best code assistant for SAP development, helps developers of all experience levels work more efficiently. This is made possible by comprehensive, AI-powered development tools that deliver precise and contextual results based on specially developed SAP-centric AI models. This gives you valuable time to develop applications and automate SAP processes more productively, creatively and quickly using ABAP, Java, JavaScript and visual tools.
New extensions for Joule for Developers, for example an AI-supported ABAP development in SAP Cloud ERP Private as well as AI-driven custom code migration capabilitieshelp development teams modernize legacy systems and meet corporate governance and security requirements. These improvements also increase productivity, improve code quality, and support cloud transformation goals.
Employees in development who are in SAP build on digital workspaces can now use AI-powered content creation to quickly write comments, create workspace content, and summarize documents. The AI can also directly access user-specific folders and workspace content in its responses. This means users receive trustworthy information tailored to their roles. At the same time, compliance requirements are met and secure, role-based analysis of documents is ensured.
Next year, new ABAP LLMs will be released that are trained on ABAP code and specialized in ABAP development.
Connect everything to increase productivity
Development employees build the bridges that keep companies running. With the SAP Integration Suite Let’s now make this work even easier and faster. The following innovations make it easier to automate using APIs and agents, ensure reliable, end-to-end security with real-time monitoring, and increase the productivity of development teams.
We continue to integrate AI capabilities directly into the SAP Integration Suite. In the area of API management We now provide automated, targeted recommendations and intelligent error corrections to address common API anomalies such as error spikes, latency increases, or unusual traffic patterns. Developers can also ask Joule about the most commonly used APIs to gain detailed insights into APIs and understand usage patterns.
Using the MCP Gateway, customers can provide their own APIs and integration flows that can be consumed by AI agents. The function makes it possible to further expand your own agents created in Joule Studio or to extend Joule agents by integrating data from third-party and SAP legacy systems – prepared as MCP tools that ensure smooth use. This approach standardizes access, provides centralized control and security, and makes discovery easier Developer Hub easier.
