As a continuation of the series on the Introductory Guide to Provisioning SAP Business Data Cloud and its various components, this blog will help you provision SAP HANA Cloud within Business Data Cloud. Please refer to the different parts to get a holistic understanding of the entire process.

Part 1: Provisioning of Business Data Cloud through SAP4Me
Part 2: Provisioning of SAP Datasphere
Part 3: Provisioning of SAP Analytics Cloud
Part 4: Provisioning of SAP Databricks
Part 5: Installation of Intelligent Apps and Data Packages
Part 6: Provisioning of SAP HANA Cloud

#Part 6
In this blog, we will discuss in detail how to provision SAP HANA Cloud via Business Data Cloud Core.

Prerequisites

  • An active SAP Business Data Cloud subscription with a valid Entitlement System ID.
  • Access to SAP for Me (me.sap.com) with the appropriate provisioning roles.
  • SAP Business Data Cloud Core must be enabled — you will see the confirmation banner on the Applications tab.
  • A configured SAP Cloud Identity Services (CIS) tenant is available in your landscape.
  • Sufficient remaining Capacity Units in your contract to allocate to the new solution.

Note: The provisioning wizard is a guided, multi-step flow. Each step must be completed in sequence. You can navigate back using the Previous Step button to revise entries before finalising

Provisioning SAP HANA Cloud creates a single SAP HANA database instance within an SAP-managed application tenant. When the HANA database instance is provisioned, the SAP HANA Cloud tools are automatically set up as well. These tools, accessible from the SAP HANA Cloud tenant in SAP for Me, allow you to:

Step-by-Step Provisioning Guide

Log in to SAP for Me nd navigate to Portfolio & Products > Business Data Cloud. On the Applications tab you will find all BDC applications that are available for provisioning within your entitlement, including:

  • SAP Analytics Cloud
  • SAP Databricks
  • SAP Datasphere
  • SAP Datasphere, Data Composer
  • SAP HANA Cloud
  • SAP Business Data Cloud Connect
  1. A green confirmation banner confirms that SAP Business Data Cloud Core is enabled, and provisioning can begin. Click Start Provisioning on the SAP HANA Cloud tile

  2. In the “Provision SAP HANA Cloud” dialog that appears, provide details such as Solution Name, Path and Business Type.  The Business Type available by default is ‘Production’

  3. On the Assign Quota page, specify the number of Capacity Units to allocate to the SAP HANA Cloud instance within this solution.

    3.Jpg

For now, you can use the HANA Cloud estimator from SAP Discovery Centre.
    https://hcsizingestimator.cfapps.eu10.hana.ondemand.com/sap/hana/estimator/index.html
The BDC Calculator does not yet include SAP HANA Cloud. When estimating HANA Cloud capacity within BDC, please run the following interim approach: run the HANA Cloud estimator and multiply the result by 0.836 to calculate the equivalent BDC Capacity Units. This short-term workaround will be replaced soon.

  4. The Set Up Systems step configures the underlying system integrations required for your HANA Cloud solution. Two integrations must be addressed:

    • Integration with SAP HANA Cloud — It is set to default as add a new system to let the wizard provision a fresh HANA Cloud system on your behalf. This is the recommended approach for new deployments.
    • Integration with SAP Cloud Identity Services — Choose the CIS tenant that will handle identity and authentication for this solution (e.g. the CIS tenant that is configured with your BTP Cockpit).
      2.Jpg

  5. Input the details in the Configure Parameters. Define the instance-level parameters for SAP HANA Cloud. These settings control the infrastructure characteristics of the HANA database that will be provisioned. Select the Region, give an instance name and select the preset options.
See also Data Center Availability in SAP Business Data Cloud.
    5.Jpg
  6. Formations define how BDC integrates the provisioned systems into a cohesive, connected landscape. On this page, configure the formation that links your HANA Cloud instance to the BDC solution. The Formation Type is pre-populated based on the selected BDC application. The Formation Name is a unique identifier within your landscape — choose a descriptive name that reflects the solution's purpose or environment.
    1.Jpg
  7. The final Review page presents a consolidated summary of all configuration choices made across the previous five steps. Verify each section carefully:

    • 1. General Information — Entitlement System, Solution Name, Path, Business Type.
    • 2. Assign Quota — Capacity Units allocated to SAP HANA Cloud.
    • 3. Set Up Systems — SAP HANA Cloud system and CIS tenant selection.
    • 4. Configure Parameters — Region, Instance Name, Preset.
    • 5. Set Up Formations — Formation Type and Formation Name.

Each section includes an Edit link for inline corrections without losing the rest of the configuration. Once satisfied, click Finish to submit the provisioning request. The HANA Cloud instance will begin provisioning in the background.

    6.Jpg

  8. A confirmation message notifies you that the system is now creating the solution. Choose View in Resources to view the tenant in the resource group you have indicated

    7.Jpg

  9. While the solution is being created, the status in the Resources tab is Processing, and it will reach Ready status when provisioning is complete.

    9.Jpg

  10. Once the tenant is ready, you will be able to access the tenant from the link under the ‘Resource’ tab and under the tenant details
  11. Under ‘Customer Landscape’, you can see the system details of the new tenant. Also, the system integration is visually presented, making it easier to understand and navigate through your system landscape
  12. As a next step, you will have to add the tenant to the ‘Formation’ that you have created already and add your BDC tenant to it
  13. Navigate to me.sap.com > Products & portfolio > Business Data Cloud > Customer Landscape > Formation
  14. Choose the correct Formation and then click on ‘Include System’ and choose the Databricks tenant to include in the formation, and save the changes
  15. You can add one or more HANA Cloud systems in a single formation. You can also add the same system in multiple formations

Next Steps:

The SAP HANA Cloud instance is provisioned with a DBADMIN user with a generated password.

  • Log in to the IAS (Identity Authentication Service) tenant you selected for integration with the instance. Assign the “HANA Cloud Security Administrator” role to a user. This user will then be able to configure the DBADMIN account using SAP HANA Cloud tools. For additional details, refer to Managing SAP HANA Database Instances Using SAP HANA Cloud Central.

Log in to the HANA Cloud Central and configure the DBADMIN user

  • As a next step, log in to the SAP HANA Database Explorer

Additional Information:

After integrating an SAP Business Data Cloud system with SAP HANA Cloud, you need to share the required data products with the SAP HANA Cloud system through the catalogue (see Sharing Data Products to SAP Systems).

In SAP HANA Cloud, you must then perform additional steps to install the shared data products. For guidance, refer to Consuming Data Products in SAP HANA Cloud in the SAP HANA Cloud documentation.

Now, you have successfully provisioned SAP HANA Cloud within the BDC Core.

Happy Learning
