Managing custom tasks in your onboarding and offboarding processes just got significantly easier. The 1H 2026 release introduces a game-changing enhancement: predelivered custom task template objects that eliminate the manual setup burden and accelerate your time to value.
The Challenge: Manual Configuration Overhead
Previously, when organizations wanted to capture custom data for their onboarding or offboarding tasks, they had to manually create custom MDF (Master Data Framework) objects for each custom task. This process was:
– Time-consuming – Admins spent considerable time designing and creating MDF objects from scratch
– Error-prone – Manual configuration increased the risk of setup mistakes
– Complex – Required deep technical knowledge of MDF object structure and configuration
– Repetitive – Similar custom task requirements across organizations meant duplicating the same effort
The Solution: Ready-to-Use Template Objects
We're excited to introduce an increase of the Onboarding-specific MDF limit up to 500, as well as the concept of predelivered custom task template objects that are now available out-of-the-box in SuccessFactors Onboarding. These templates provide ready-made MDF objects specifically designed for custom tasks, allowing you to:
Get Started Faster
No more starting from scratch. Select from a library of predelivered template objects that are immediately available in your system. Simply choose the template that matches your needs and configure your custom task in minutes, not hours.
Reduce Configuration Errors
Each template object is pre-configured with the optimal structure for custom task data collection, including:
– Proper field definitions and data types
– Correct security settings (RBP-secured with subject user field)
– Built-in searchability for key fields (activity ID, process ID, subject user)
– Appropriate permission categories
– The following field types are supported:
-
Boolean
-
Date
-
DateTime
-
Decimal
-
Generic Object
-
Number
-
String
-
Time
-
User
The following field character limits apply:
|
String + Users |
40 |
|
Generic Object + Number + Boolean |
20 |
|
Date + Time + DateTime |
10 |
|
Decimal |
10 |
Simplified Administration
The predelivered templates eliminate the complexity of MDF object creation. Administrators can now focus on defining the business logic of their custom tasks rather than wrestling with technical configuration details.
Flexibility for Both Onboarding and Offboarding
All template objects support both onboarding and offboarding processes, giving you maximum flexibility to use them across your entire employee lifecycle.
How It Works
The predelivered custom task template objects are automatically available in your 1H 2026 environment through a feature toggle that's enabled by default. When creating a custom task definition, you can now:
- Select from predelivered templates – Browse the available template objects in the Custom Tasks settings
- Associate the template – Link the template object to your custom task definition
- Configure your task – Define task name, description, module, and other properties
- Start using immediately – The template handles all the underlying data structure
Each template object provides:
– Dedicated database tables for optimal performance
– Reportable data through the Onboarding2 schema
– API support for integration scenarios
– Full localization support for global deployments
Seamless Integration with Existing Workflows
These predelivered templates work seamlessly with all existing custom task functionality, including:
– Custom task assignment and delegation
– Task completion workflows
– Notification templates
– Reporting and analytics
– REST APIs for custom task operations

Looking Ahead
This enhancement represents our commitment to simplifying administration while maintaining the flexibility and power that SuccessFactors Onboarding customers depend on. By providing predelivered templates, we're reducing the barrier to entry for custom tasks and enabling more organizations to take advantage of this powerful capability.
We're excited to see how you use these new templates to streamline your onboarding and offboarding processes!
