SAP Business Data Cloud and Datasphere News in April

SAPPHIRE season is upon us 🌴 and the April releases didn't hold back either — plenty of useful features landing across monitoring, task chains, data products, and more.

Learn more in my top features video in April 2026 on YouTube 📺.

In addition, explore the latest updates in our community news blogs and more.

My top features in April

Update Action for Installed Data Products

Data products installed in an SAP Datasphere space now have an Update action button, available when new minor versions are released. This improvement streamlines the workflow, providing a more efficient and intuitive process for users tasked with keeping data products current.

BDC Cockpit Data Product Monitoring

As promised, the BDC Cockpit is being continuously improved. Administrators now get significantly better visibility into SAP-managed data product pipelines — this is the first step of several improvements coming over the next months.

The cockpit now shows the full pipeline status at every step, making it easy to identify exactly where issues occur and act before they impact your business.

Local Table Partitioning

In the table editor, you can create partitions on existing SAP-Managed local tables stored in a standard space (with SAP HANA Database (Disk and In-Memory) storage) that already contain data. So previously unpartitioned tables can now be partitioned even if they already carry data. This is particularly useful for large-volume tables where partitioning was not possible at initial creation.

Spark Configuration

The Limits to the amount of compute resources that Apache Spark applications can consume when running tasks are set with configurations. In addition to using the provided configurations, which are applied by default to new file spaces, you can now change the default configuration for a task activity in each file space, and create your own configurations.

Be aware, that newly provided default configurations for task activities may allocate fewer resources than those used in previous versions (see SAP Note 3726059), tasks might run more slowly even though they consume less compute. If these new default values don't meet your needs, you can change the default configuration for a task activity in each file space.

Cloud Connector Support for Google BigQuery

You can now configure private connectivity for Google BigQuery connections through the Cloud Connector. The Cloud Connector routes data traffic through secure tunnels rather than the public internet, allowing you to use replication flows to write data to Google BigQuery target systems that don't have public endpoints.

Task Chains Deletion Types

Task chains now support all deletion types for both local tables and Local Tables (file).

The newly supported deletion activities are:

  • Delete All Records
  • Delete Filtered Records

Semantic Onboarding of Calc Views from HANA Cloud

You can import calculation views from SAP HANA Cloud as remote tables while preserving semantic information. This helps you leverage existing HANA Cloud models without recreating them, keeping their business context and metadata for consistent data modeling across platforms.

Be aware that as a prerequisite, only calculation views deployed in SAP HANA Cloud version QRC 1/2026 or higher can be imported in SAP Datasphere database version 2025.50 or higher.

To ensure that your calculation view can be imported, deploy the calculation view in the source system with SAP Business Data Cloud Integration Mode set to Flat View or Construction Kit.

Analytic Model — Inherited and Local Properties

A small but useful addition to the analytic model. For analytic models that use another analytic model as source, you can switch on Show Inherited Elements in the properties panel, to display the inherited elements. That makes it easy to distinguish between local and inherited properties.

Improved Monitoring Tool Navigation

The Monitoring tool now features an enhanced navigation menu for easier access to key monitoring pages:

  • System and Spaces – Monitor system performance, storage, tasks, and out-of-memory issues across all spaces. Track storage consumption and Apache Spark usage.
  • Capacities Monitoring – Track monthly and daily capacity unit consumption against your subscription and download detailed hourly data.
  • Task Logs – Review task execution history and performance.
  • Expensive Statement Logs – Monitor SQL statements exceeding configured thresholds.
  • Elastic Compute Nodes – Monitor elastic compute nodes key performance figures.
  • Data Integration – Monitor, schedule, and run data replication tasks for remote tables and views. Manage flows and task chains.

That consolidates all the monitoring activities into one menu section.

SAPPHIRE 2026 — Let's Meet in Orlando

SAP SAPPHIRE 2026 is just around the corner! I'll be in Orlando presenting the introductory session on SAP Business Data Cloud — a 20-minute guided tour of what it is, how it's positioned, and where it fits into SAP's data and analytics strategy. I'm running it twice:

📅 Monday, May 11 | 1:30 PM – 1:50 PM EDT

📅 Tuesday, May 12 | 4:00 PM – 4:20 PM EDT

With 30+ sessions on Business Data Cloud at this year's SAPPHIRE, there's a lot to explore. You'll also find us at the SAP Business Data Cloud booth with six demo stations and hands-on sessions. No excuse not to stop by if you're in Orlando.

Can't make it in person? All content will be available online — and of course, I'll keep publishing the monthly newsletter right here.
