Posting Summarization in Accruals

Before Release 2020:

  • The transaction ACEPOSTINGRUN aimed to minimize the number of documents by summarizing them as much as possible.

From Release 2020 Onwards:

  • The transaction ACEPOSTINGRUN offers more flexibility by allowing summarization of posting documents at different levels: maximum summarization, accrual subobject level, and accrual item level.
  • This enhanced flexibility enables customers to view the posting results and perform true reversals of individual documents.
  • Previously, reversals were done by posting the same amount on the opposite credit/debit side, as reversing individual documents often affected multiple accrual subobjects.
  • With the ability to post for a single accrual subobject or even a single accrual item, documents can now be truly reversed.

IMG Activity:

  • To define the aggregation level, use the IMG activity in transaction ACEIMG:
  • Path: Accruals Management -> Accrual Postings -> Define Posting Summarization

Test Run Mode in Transaction ACEPOSTINGRUN:

  • When the transaction ACEPOSTINGRUN is executed in test run mode, the summarization customizing settings are disregarded. Instead, postings are summarized at the accrual items and posting types level.
  • The rationale behind this is that error messages generated during the posting run are attached to each document. If documents are created for multiple accrual subobjects, error messages cannot be linked to the corresponding accrual subobjects, making it difficult to identify the root cause.
  • This feature was introduced in release 2020 and has been backported to release 1809 SP5 and release 1909 SP3 through Note 2912042.

Account Assignment

  • Previously, account assignment fields were present in the posting run result list, but most of these fields were empty because only the account assignment from the accrual account (a balance sheet account) was displayed.
  • This behavior has been changed: now, the account assignment from the offsetting account (usually a P&L account) is shown.
  • This update is available in release 2020 and has been downported to release 1809 SP4 and release 1909 SP3 through Note 2893536.

Sign of Amounts

  • Previously, in the posting run result list, the Accrual Amount was shown with a negative sign, while the Remaining Amount and Accumulated Amount were shown with a positive sign.
  • The Accrual Amount followed the value in the posting document, while the Remaining Amount and Accumulated Amount followed the value in the Calculated Accruals in the Tree UI (Transaction ACACTREE02). This inconsistency sometimes caused confusion for end users.
  • The new behavior is that the Accrual Amount, Remaining Amount, and Accumulated Amount are all shown with a negative sign, providing consistency.
  • This update is available in release 2020.

Quantity Only Postings are Enabled in Two Cases:

  1. Change in Accrual Items:
  • When the quantity is changed in Accrual Items, an opening posting will be triggered.
  • The resulting posting document will contain only the updated quantity, with the amount fields set to 0.
  1. Differences in Quantities in ACEPOSTINGRUN:
  • During the ACEPOSTINGRUN, if there is a difference between the balance quantity and the posted quantity for other types of postings (e.g., periodic posting), a posting document will be created.
  • This document will contain only the differing quantity, with the amount fields set to 0.

Availability:

  • This feature is available in release 2020 and has been downported to release 1809 SP5 and release 1909 SP3 through Notes 2926918 and 2936548.

Use Cases:

  1. Contract Deactivation:
  • A contract is closed in December 2019 and reaches the admin department in late January.
  • The contract needs to be deactivated. FI-Periods may be closed, but the posting must occur in the next available period.
  1. Backdated Contract Change:
  • A contract change is made in June, but it is backdated to April (a common practice due to warranty issues, complaints, etc.).
  • FI-periods are closed, but the posting must be made in the next available period.

Support in Accrual Engine:

  • Before release 1809, these scenarios were not supported in the Accrual Engine.
  • They are now supported in the S/4HANA Accrual Engine.
  • Supported actions include opening posting, periodic posting, and release posting.

IMG Activity:

  • To define this behavior in transaction ACEIMG:
  • Path: Accruals Management -> Accrual Postings -> Settings for Accrual Postings on Application Level

Availability:

  • This feature is available in release 2020 and has been downported to release 1809 SP4 and release 1909 FPS2 via Note 2869043.
