What Is the Production Planning and Operations Agent?
The Production Planning and Operations Agent is a Joule-powered AI capability embedded directly into the Manage Production Orders app in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. It introduces a new Release button in the app's worklist, enabling planners to initiate an AI-guided production order release process — handling up to 20 orders at a time.
Rather than manually verifying each order's readiness, the agent takes over the time-consuming prerequisite checks and surfaces actionable insights so that planners can focus on decisions, not data gathering.

Component Availability Checks
Automatically verifies that all required components are available or identifies suitable alternatives before release.
Work Center Capacity Checks
Evaluates work center load and capacity constraints to ensure orders can be executed without creating bottlenecks.
Rescheduling
When prerequisites are not met, the agent proposes concrete rescheduling options so production can proceed on a revised timeline.
Bulk Release — Up to 20 Orders
Process multiple production orders in a single agent-guided session, dramatically reducing manual effort for planners.
How It Works: Step by Step
1) Open the Manage Production Orders App
Navigate to the Manage Production Orders app and select the orders you want to release from the worklist.
2) Initiate the Agent via the Release Button
Click the new Release button to start the Production Planning and Operations Agent. The agent immediately begins analyzing the selected orders.
3) Automated Prerequisite Checks
The agent runs component availability checks (including alternatives), validates work center capacity, and identifies any orders that are not yet ready for release.
4) Review Proposals and Rescheduling Suggestions
For orders with unmet prerequisites, the agent presents rescheduling proposals. The planner reviews and decides which changes to accept.
5) Confirm and Release
Once all criteria are met and the planner confirms the proposed changes, the agent completes the production order release — updating the system accordingly.
Activation and Prerequisites
This feature is not enabled by default. It must be activated through the Activate Features configuration activity using the following feature flag: PP_FIO_SFC_AI297_RELEASEAGENT
