What are Max Success Plan Business Scenarios?

Have you ever wondered what business scenarios are?

They used to be widely popular in the context of SAP Premium Engagements (SAP MaxAttention) but now also cover the elements of the Advanced Success Plan (formerly known as Preferred Success) and Foundational Success Plan (formerly known as Enterprise Support).

If you are not familiar with the concept of SAP's new success plans and would like to know more about the transformation of SAP's services and support portfolio, start with this blog first: Integrated Success Plans aka Max Success Plan put simply.

Let's start with the basics: a business scenario is a collection of services for a specific customer situation (or scenario) or solution. It is an MS PowerPoint document listing the specific services that are useful for a customer situation, like a predefined service plan.

Example: Your company has subscribed to a Max Success Plan and you are planning to move to SAP Cloud ERP Private (formerly known as SAP S/4HANA) with a brownfield project. Now you would like to know which services you can use to support you with that. So you could go and check the following business scenario: SAP Cloud ERP Private brownfield to find exactly the services that are suitable for this specific situation.

Each business scenario contains modules, which are groupings of services. Because in a brownfield project, there are a lot of different things where you could use support for: planning and safeguarding the project, preparing and cleaning up your custom code, or functional design of the new solution, just to name a few. So we grouped the services in modules to not just give you a list of plenty unsorted services relevant for a brownfield project.

With every Max Success Plan comes a Success Plan Manager (SPM) and his job is also to guide you through the business scenarios. As of today, we have 20 business scenarios:

Some of them are solution-specific business scenarios, like the ones for SAP ERP and some are solution-agnostic, like the Enterprise Architecture one or the one for Business AI.

Below is a short description of each business scenario with a link to the respective document:

1. Drive Enterprise Architecture TransformationLink
This scenario is used by customers who want to plan a road map for their entire SAP landscape (target architecture), as in which solutions to implement when and bring the most value for my company. This scenarios revolves around our renowned Northstar service from the Max Success Plan and shows you which XXX. It also helps in situations when customers are not sure whether to go towards SAP Cloud ERP Private or public or two-tier (both). 

2. SAP Cloud ERP Private – brownfield – Link 
This scenario is used by customers who plan to convert their current SAP ECC system to SAP S/4HANA or SAP Cloud ERP Private and needs support with anything that revolves around it.

3. SAP Cloud ERP Private – greenfieldLink
The services collected in this scenario are helping customers to plan, execute and safeguard their greenfield (new) implementation of SAP Cloud ERP Private including AI use cases and XXX.

4. SAP Cloud ERP Private – Selective data transitionLink
This scenarios can be used when customers need support in relation to their selective data transition (SDT) project to SAP Cloud ERP Private.
Selective data transition is a mix of brownfield and greenfield. While in a greenfield project, you cannot carry any historical data over from your SAP ECC to SAP Cloud ERP Private, and in a brownfield project, you need to carry all your historical data over, in a SDT project you can carry over selected historical data, e.g. of specific years or company codes.

5. SAP Cloud ERP Private – build your innovation foundationLink
This business scenario is for customers planning a lift & shift project, so moving from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud, either from SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA on-premise, no conversion. Not included in this scenario is database migration.

6. Evolve towards SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud EditionLink
The services depicted in here are for customers that are planning or currently in the middle of an implementation project with SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition. The services in here are very similar to the ones you can find in the greenfield business scenario because you can only move to SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Edition with a greenfield implementation.

7. Run Best on SAP Cloud ERP PrivateLink
The Run Best business scenario really comes into play once the solution has been implemented and you went live. Success Plans are tied to a subscription contract and typically, a RISE contract can run for four, five, six or even seven years, so the success plan runs for the same timeframe. So the question that we get from customers a lot is: “if my Go Live is after 2 years of implementation, what am I going to do in the years 3 to 7?” and the answer is you need to maintain your solution, use new features, upgrade your solution. And this is what the services in this business scenario support you with.
