Introduction

In today's distributed enterprise landscape, subsidiaries and headquarters operate as interconnected but distinct entities — each with its own inventory, fulfilment capabilities, and customer commitments. When it comes to archetype “sales office as subsidiary” where regional subsidiary functions as sales office and depends on headquarters for fulfilment of quantities through intercompany replenishment between the two tiers or supply to customer directly using drop-shipment from HQ then One of the most persistent challenges in a Two-Tier ERP setup is ensuring accurate, real-time Available-to-Promise (ATP) checks that span across both tiers.

In above scenario the challenge Inside sales representative deals with while booking customers’ orders and promising qty and dates to customers is stock availability information at the other tier is available for confirmation only once the stock is booked via firm sales order creation on another Tier playing role as the supplier. This gap can be addressed with Custom Joule skills capability developed on Joule Studio that enables subsidiaries to check stock availability at headquarters in real time, make reliable delivery commitments to customers, and orchestrate fulfilment seamlessly across tiers — all through natural language interactions with Joule

This blog explores how the Cross ATP Check works, the business scenarios it enables, and why it is a transformative capability for Two-Tier ERP deployments.

What Is the Two-Tier ERP Cross ATP Check?

The Cross-system ATP Check is a real-time availability check mechanism that bridges the inventory visibility gap between a Tier 2 (subsidiary – SAP Cloud ERP) and a Tier 1 (headquarters – SAP Cloud ERP Private). Rather than operating in silos, the subsidiary can now — through Joule — query the HQ's stock levels, receive availability dates, and act on that information instantly, without manual data exchange or delays.

This capability is custom Joule skill built on Joule Studio and is not delivered as part of standard product.

Key Business Benefits:

  • Seamless availability check across subsidiary and HQ
  • Faster and more reliable customer delivery commitments
  • Optimized inventory utilization across tiers
  • Boosted operational agility
  • Sales Order and Purchase Order creation directly via Joule

Three Core Business Scenarios :

Below are the three scenarios we have developed as capability show-case of Custom Joule skill on Joule Studio for Two-Tier Cross ATP check.

Scenario 1 — Delivery Date Commitment Based on HQ Stock Availability

A customer requests a product at the subsidiary. The subsidiary uses Joule to query HQ inventory, receives the date and quantity available, and communicates a reliable delivery commitment to the customer — factoring in HQ availability and shipping lead times. HQ then ships directly to the customer on the committed date.

Value:  The subsidiary commits to a date based on live HQ data, improving customer satisfaction and credibility.

Scenario 2 — Customer Fulfilment (Partial Local, Partial HQ)

A customer orders may only be partially fulfilled from local stock at subsidiary . Joule first checks local inventory. If fully available locally, the order is fulfilled directly. If only partially available, Joule checks HQ for the remainder. Two orders are created via Joule: A Sales Order for the local portion (immediate delivery) and a Third-Party Sales Order for the remainder, which automatically  creates a Purchase Order to HQ  and a subsequent sales order at HQ via standard best practice 2EJ/2EL . HQ ships the balance directly to the customer.

Value: Enables seamless split fulfilment — maximum available quantity is delivered immediately while the rest is routed to HQ automatically.

Scenario 2.Png

Scenario 3 — Optimized Procurement from Multiple  Locations

When the subsidiary needs to replenish its own stock, Joule evaluates inventory availability across HQ locations and other subsidiary locations (e.g., Tier 1 and Tier 2A). The subsidiary selects the best location based on availability and fulfilment capability. A Purchase Order is created and transmitted to the selected HQ via the Two-Tier ERP integration (2EJ). The chosen location fulfils and ships the order.

Value: Introduces intelligent, real-time multi-source procurement — the subsidiary makes the optimal sourcing decision without manual coordination between systems or teams.

Conclusion

The Two-Tier Cross ATP Check is infused with Joule AI capabilities through custom Joule skills, bringing cross-tier inventory intelligence directly into a single conversation. A subsidiary sales representative can check HQ availability, commit to a delivery date, create the sales order, and trigger the inter-company purchase order — all without switching systems. What once required manual coordination across two tiers now happens in one Joule interaction.
