What Is SIREN — and Why Does It Matter for France E-Invoicing and E-Reporting?

SIREN (Système d'Identification du Répertoire des ENtreprises) is France's unique identification number for a company. This 9-digit number identifies legal entities in France and serves as your electronic address for exchanging e-invoices with your business partners as well as for submitting e-reports to the French authority under the new e-invoicing and e-reporting mandate.

A few important remarks:

  • In the test system, you can only use a test SIREN number — not your real company's SIREN number.
  • In production system, there are multiple ways to register your electronic address, including using only SIREN, SIREN_Suffix, SIREN_SIRET, or SIREN_SIRET_Routing Code. In test or qualification system, using only SIREN as the participant ID would be the only option for now.

How to Request SIREN Numbers for Testing?

The official step-by-step guidance is published (in French) by authority on the Chorus Pro portal:

To summarize, the process works as follows:

  1. Register an account: On https://qualif.chorus-pro.gouv.fr, after registering with your email address, you will receive a confirmation email within a few minutes. Click the link in that email to create your password.
  2. Log in with your email and password: Once registration and password setup is complete.
  3. Requesting a Data mattress: After logging in, navigate to the tile Consult the data mattress (Consultation du matelas de données) as demonstrated below. Another important remark is that you need to select the standard data mattress for enterprises (not the ones for Approved Platform which is a different category).

 4. Find the test SIREN number: After the csv file is generated, download it and find the test SIREN numbers. What you are looking for are the 4 test SIREN numbers that belong to private entity (as highlighted below).

Recommendation: Register Two SIRENs — One for Sending, One for Receiving

To test the full end-to-end flow — both outgoing invoice transmission and incoming invoice reception — you could register two participant IDs with two SIRENs. The recommended setup is:

  • Company Code 1 (Sender): Configured with SIREN A. This company code will send e-invoices to Company Code 2.
  • Company Code 2 (Receiver): Configured with SIREN B. This company code will receive e-invoices.

With this setup, Company Code 1 sends an invoice addressed to SIREN B, and Company Code 2 receives it — allowing you to validate both the outgoing and incoming flows in a single test cycle. The electronic invoices will appear in your Manage Electronic Documents app or eDocument Cockpit in your SAP system.
