Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this blog post!
As a member of the SAP S/4HANA RIG (Regional Implementation Group), our mission is to share collective insights and hands‑on experience with the broader SAP community through blog posts and SAP Learning courses. To date, we have published more than 700 blog posts and delivered numerous learning offerings to help customers successfully navigate SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition.
Today, I would like to show how you can leverage SAP Joule in SAP S/4HANA and, more importantly, how you can adapt it to your specific business needs. While this example focuses on Purchase Requisition (PR) creation, the same principles can be applied to many other business processes.
SAP Joule and Purchase Requisition Creation
As you can see in the video below, as of May 2026, Joule can guide an end user through the creation of a Purchase Requisition. Additional details are available in the SAP Help Portal here: Create Purchase Requisitions.
This capability is already very useful for many customers. However, we also know that every customer has unique requirements. After presenting this process, I frequently received the following questions:
- Can Joule create a Purchase Requisition using our own document type?
- Can Joule populate additional standard fields, such as the PR Description?
- I created a custom field in the F1481 – Custom fields app and enabled it in the respective Purchase requisition API. Could that custom field be included in the prompt?
- Our team only creates PRs for materials. Can Joule assume I will request a material and skip the initial question?
- Is it possible to request a PR that includes all the required information in a single prompt?
- Can multiple materials be included directly during PR creation, rather than as a follow‑up step?
The short answer to all of these questions is yes—by leveraging Joule Studio through Agents and Skills.
As part of the SAP Build portfolio, Joule Studio allows you to tailor Joule to your specific business requirements using an intuitive, user-friendly interface. It enables you to extend standard capabilities, connect to existing SAP and customer-specific services, and guide how Joule responds based on business context and input.
In addition, Joule Studio lets you define AI agents with clear roles and areas of focus, ensuring Joule behaves in a way that aligns with your processes and supports users more effectively in their daily work.
And rather than just taking my word for it, you can see it in action in the following video:
For this case, I used a single Prompt:
“Using Easy Purchaser, create a PR ‘ZNB', “Blog Joule”, with: TG11, plant: 1710, 5 PC, date: 01/06/2026; TG12, plant: 1710, 7 PC, date: 01/06/2026, ZJoule: Demo”.
Compared with the initial video, Joule did not ask for a source of supply or whether the request was for a material or a service. It also allowed me to select the document type “ZNB”, populate the PR description, and fill the custom field “ZJoule.” This behaviour is intentional and reflects how Joule was configured in Joule Studio to align with the business process and reduce unnecessary user input.
Key Takeaway
SAP delivers a standard experience for Joule‑driven object creation. At the same time, you remain in control. By leveraging SAP Joule Studio, you can tailor Joule to meet your organization’s unique needs—without being limited to a fixed, predefined flow.
The SAP S/4HANA RIG Team is preparing a series of technical and functional blogs to walk you through some examples. The next blog will focus on the technical steps to enable this scenario and to adapt the Joule Agent to your business needs. Links will be updated here. Stay tuned!
