After a long wait, it’s finally here: a new practical ABAP certification exam designed to test what really matters. This time, you’ll be working hands-on in a live SAP system.

🚀SAP Certified – Backend Developer – ABAP Cloud (Beta Version)

If you’re planning to take it, here’s what you should know – and how to prepare effectively.

The new exam https://learning.sap.com/certifications/sap-certified-associate-back-end-developer-abap-cloud focuses on solving practical development tasks based on the content of:

Basic ABAP Programming (S4D400)
Intermediate ABAP Programming (S4D401)
Data Modelling in ABAP Dictionary and ABAP Core Data Services (S4D430)

You’ll work in an ABAP environment on SAP BTP, using the ABAP language version for cloud development.

If your background is primarily on-premise ABAP, this is a mindset shift.

ℹ️We’re currently in the Beta phase of the certification exam.

What that means for you:

3-hour exam instead of the planned 4-hour version
Same full certification as the final release – no “beta” label
Early opportunity before the scope expands

After Beta, the exam will be extended to 4 hours with broader coverage.

The certification system will resemble the training and practice systems available in learning environments – but it won’t be identical.

Preparation is Essential.

The practice systems give you access to:

The same underlying data model used in the exam
Identical table and field names
A comparable development setup

Getting familiar with the structure of the data model and working with ABAP Development Tools for Eclipse (ADT) will save you valuable time during the exam.

You’ll have three hours to complete the exam. Three hours go faster than you think!
