The SAP Service and Asset Manager Setup Wizard is a tool intended to simplify the process of implementing SSAM by guiding the user through a series of questions and automating the setup of the application. The Setup Wizard covers technical steps including activating BC sets and gateway services, creating a mobile services application, scheduling background jobs and more. It also leads the user through business configuration including activating SSAM features and modifying oMDO filters to tailor the SSAM application to the user's specific business needs.
Using the SSAM Setup Wizard
The SSAM Setup Wizard is accessed by transaction /MERP/SETUP_WIZARD. Before opening the transaction, you must activate the SICF node and activate the SSAM Wizard BC Set. First open transaction SICF, enter hierarchy type SERVICE, and press execute. Expand default_host > sap > bc > webdynpro > merp. Right click on SETUP_WIZARD and click Activate Service. Now you are ready to open transaction /MERP/SETUP_WIZARD.
‘Activate Service’ in transaction SICF.
Next, open transaction SCPR20. Enter BC Set name /MERP/CORE_SSAM_SETUP_WIZARD and click the activate button.

When you first open the tool, you will be prompted to create a new project. Here you can give the project a name, i.e. ‘SSAM 2511 Implementation’ and choose to create the project. The project contains a series of stages and steps that will guide you through the implementation of your SSAM application.
The SSAM wizard splits the implementation process into four separate stages: Prerequisites, Technical Setup, Business Configuration, and User Setup.
After answering all of the questions in a stage you will be shown an overview of all the work that will be performed once the stage is executed. On this overview screen you can uncheck any steps that you don’t to be executed. For example, maybe you prefer to schedule purge jobs with your own variants. In this case, you can uncheck the Schedule Purge Jobs step before executing the stage and it will not be runThe overview screen gives details of what will be done in each step and gives the user the option to uncheck and skip any steps they do not want to run.
Once a stage is executed, any work performed cannot be automatically undone. Any adjustments must be made manually.
After pressing the Execute Stage button, all steps in the stage will be executed. This can take some time to run. Once the steps are done running, you will see an overview with status of each step. In the case of warnings or errors, you can click on the Info button to see detailed logs of what went wrong. Any adjustments must be made manually.

Stages of the SSAM Setup Wizard
The first stage of the setup wizard is the prerequisites stage. The prerequisites stage provides an overview of what must be completed before proceeding with running the setup wizard. A brief overview of what must be done is provided along with links to detailed documentation explaining how to perform the steps. These prerequisites must be fulfilled before proceeding with the rest of the setup wizard.
The next stage is the technical setup stage. The technical setup stage automates technical configuration. This includes activating BC sets, activating gateway services, configuring number ranges, and creating a mobile services application.
The third stage is the business configuration stage. The business configuration stage will automatically configure SSAM feature flags and oMDO filters based on the answers you provide. The functionality covered in the setup wizard is not exhaustive, and further adjustments to SSAM configuration may be required in the Syclo Configuration Panel.
The final stage is the user setup stage. In the user setup stage, you are prompted to provide a sample user who will use the application. A mobile user is created for this user, and you can provide values for user parameters here.
Once the user setup stage is completed, your SSAM application is ready to use with the sample user. Simply open the application on your mobile device and scan the onboarding QR code in your mobile services application.
System Landscape Guidance
It is recommended to first run the setup wizard in your dev environment. The wizard will prompt you for a customizing transport to save any customizing relevant configuration. Further manipulation of the configuration can be made in the config panel once you are done running the setup wizard. Once you are finished with your configuration and ready to move to QA, you will release the customizing transport you selected in the setup wizard. When you run the setup wizard in a QA or Prod system, the customizing steps will be removed. This allows you to complete the technical configuration in these systems while still managing your customizing via transports.
Implementation Details
To use the SSAM Setup Wizard, you will need to apply the SSAM 2511.1.0 TCI note that corresponds to your system. You can determine the TCI you need from the information in this note.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can stages be run independently?
No, they cannot. The stages are sequential and depend on each other. For example, if you have not completed the technical setup stage and activated the BC set, the business configuration step will not be able to update the settings for the application as it does not yet exist.
What should I do if I need more granular configuration than the setup wizard allows for?
If you need to customize your app beyond what the wizard provides, you can do this via the Syclo Configuration Panel. You can access the config panel by using transaction /n/SYCLO/CONFIGPANEL. The SSAM Help Portal contains more information regarding use of the configuration panel.
Can I rollback the work done by the wizard?
At this time the wizard cannot automatically rollback any of the work that is performed. Any adjustments or deletions need to be made manually.
In Conclusion
Our goal is that the SSAM Setup Wizard transforms what was once a multi-day, complex implementation process into a streamlined, guided experience that can be completed in just a few hours. Looking ahead, we plan to introduce an upgrade mode to the setup wizard to simplify the process of upgrading from one SSAM version to another. We welcome feedback and suggetions as we work to improve the SSAM implementation process.
