At SAP Sapphire 2026 SAP introduced a big term that could redefine how businesses run with AI – SAP Business AI Platform.
In this blog series, we will explore what SAP Business AI Platform is and why its so important in the world of AI and AI Agents.
This is the first blog, where we will focus on the the big question – Why SAP Business AI Platform is introduced.
What is SAP's vision of Autonomous Enterprise and how SAP Business AI Platform would support that.

Let’s imagine an organization where:
- AI executes tasks automatically from start to finish.
- AI detects issues before humans notice them.
- AI makes decisions within approved boundaries.
- And still humans stay in control.
That is exactly what we call the Autonomous Enterprise.
In simple words…
An Autonomous Enterprise is a business where:
- AI assistants and AI agents manage and execute end to end processes,
- At the same time people stay in control, focusing on judgment, strategy and the value creation that truly matters.
This does not mean robots are taking over. It means only repetitive operational work is handled by AI.
So that people spend less time navigating systems and coordinating work, and more time focusing on strategic tasks and decisions that truly move the business.
The goal is not replacing people. The goal is amplifying people.
Autonomous Enterprise is NOT a new product or solution.
Autonomous Enterprise is a Vision. It's an end-state for SAP customers to aspire to that only SAP can deliver.
1. Joule
Joule as the new engagement layer, bringing together the right data, workflow, and agents across SAP systems and beyond.
Joule will completely reinvent how end-users engage with SAP software and execute via assistants and agents.
2. SAP Autonomous Suite
SAP Autonomous Suite is the operational core of the business, organized into Autonomous Domains where people set the direction and assistants and agents execute the work.
The Autonomous Suite is comprised of five autonomous domains:
- Autonomous Finance
- Autonomous Spend
- Autonomous Supply Chain Management (SCM)
- Autonomous HCM
- Autonomous CX.
Each autonomous domain is comprised of specialized assistants and agents
3. Industry AI
Many customers’ most complex and valuable business challenges are highly industry specific. Industry AI extends the autonomous domain model with vertical depth, embedding sector-specific process knowledge, data models, and regulatory logic.
4. SAP Business AI platform
SAP Business AI platform as the new foundation bringing together:
- SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)
- SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC)
- parts of SAP Business Transformation Management (BTM)
- and AI Foundation
to deliver business context, unified data, models, and enterprise-grade governance

5. Accelerate Adoption
For most customers, migration and implementation costs remain the primary barrier to adopting our cloud solutions and moving away from legacy or 3rd party solutions.
To address this, SAP is investing significantly in AI‑assisted business transformation, augmenting the RISE with SAP journey with migration and modernization assistants that fundamentally improve the efficiency of ERP transformation.
Powered by agent-led toolchain and backed by the RISE with SAP Methodology, this approach reduces effort and time, making the path to the cloud more efficient.
For new cloud adopters, SAP GROW pairs pre-configured best practices with AI-assisted implementation for faster time to value.
Most companies are using AI in isolated pockets… a chatbot here, an automation there. But isolated use cases deliver only incremental value.
The real transformation happens when AI is embedded directly into end-to-end business processes, working with trusted business data and enterprise governance.
That is SAP’s vision of the Autonomous Enterprise… where AI does not just answer questions, but actively helps run the business.
Not AI for demos. AI for outcomes.
Not AI as a feature. AI as the operating model for the future enterprise.
