For many SAP Enable Now customers, SAP Enable Now and SAP Companion have been critical components of their digital learning and in-application support strategies for many years. With the announcement of SAP Enable Now’s end of mainstream maintenance on November 30, 2030, it’s important that SAP Enable Now customers consider their approach to supporting business change and driving solution adoption, once Enable Now is no longer available.

This post introduces the solutions in the WalkMe platform, for existing SAP Enable Now customers, and provides important information about the transition timing and strategy.

What is the WalkMe platform?

WalkMe is a digital platform that helps organisations improve how people learn, adapt, and execute work across enterprise applications. The WalkMe platform consists of multiple solutions that allow customers to identify and resolve digital friction points in their system workflows and a single solution that supports digital learning.  WalkMe is a recognized global leader in this space.  Its solutions support outcomes such as faster onboarding, better process compliance, improved data quality, reduced support demand, and stronger return on software investments.

WalkMe systems are classified as either Digital Adoption or Digital Learning solutions.  Briefly, these solutions can be described as:

  1. WalkMe’s Digital Adoption solutions are designed to overlay enterprise applications, such as S/4HANA and SuccessFactors, to enhance the users’ experience of those applications.  Digital adoption solutions drive greater user productivity and capability by guiding users in application and automating common, repetitive tasks.
  2. WalkMe’s AI-native Digital Learning solution was designed to improve the quality of training and ensure that critical content is always easily accessible by an organization’s employees.  The learning content can be distributed through a modern, searchable portal and is also available in application to allow easy, continual access by end users.

For SAP Enable Now customers, the WalkMe digital adoption solutions correspond to the solutions created and delivered using SAP Companion or SAP Companion for Desktop, e.g. Guided Tours and in-application message bubbles.  WalkMe’s digital learning solution corresponds to the solutions created in Enable Now Producer, including books, book pages, and simulations.

The WalkMe Digital Adoption solutions

WalkMe licenses its digital adoption solutions in two ways.  Digital adoption capability can be licensed for a single enterprise application, such as S/4HANA, or for an unlimited number of applications within an organization.  WalkMe solutions licensed for a single application are referred to as WalkMe Premium, e.g. WalkMe Premium for S/4HANA or WalkMe Premium for SuccessFactors.  When organizations license the WalkMe digital adoption capabilities for an unlimited number of applications, the solution is referred to as WalkMe DAP.

The WalkMe Premium and WalkMe DAP solutions offer comprehensive digital adoption capabilities for organizations that are undergoing significant change or plan to undertake major business transformations. These solutions allow organizations to understand actual user behavior, to build solutions to resolve friction points in complex user workflows, and to track and report changes in user efficiency and productivity. The WalkMe digital adoption capabilities are particularly valuable for businesses that are introducing new platforms, redesigning processes, or trying to increase value from complex application landscapes that span SAP and non-SAP systems.

Common business issues addressed by the WalkMe Premium and WalkMe DAP solutions include slow adoption of new technology, inconsistent process execution, underused software features, low employee productivity, and fragmented user experiences across systems.

WalkMe Premium and DAP solutions can be used to support SAP and non-SAP applications.  They can also be used to support web applications, such as S/4HANA, desktop applications, such as SAP GUI, and mobile applications.

WalkMe digital adoption solutions can be licensed to support a customer’s employees or a customer’s customers.  Examples of solutions used to support employee system usage are WalkMe Premium for S/4HANA and WalkMe Premium for Ariba.  The WalkMe solution used to support a customer’s customers is called WalkMe Premium for Customers.

The SAP Enable Now equivalent of the WalkMe digital adoption solutions is SAP Companion for web applications and SAP Companion for Desktop for desktop applications.  Think of the WalkMe solutions as SAP Companion on steroids.  There is definitely overlapping capabilities of the WalkMe solutions and SAP Companion but also capability available in WalkMe that cannot be replicated with SAP Companion, e.g. understanding actual user behavior to identify frictions in user workflows.

The WalkMe Digital Learning solution

WalkMe Learning Arc is the WalkMe solution most directly aligned to the digital learning use cases historically addressed by SAP Enable Now, e.g. books, book pages, simulations and quizzes.  In WalkMe Learning Arc, content can be delivered as individual microlearning objects, including simulations, quizzes and screen recordings, or it can be structured into courses for delivery to end users.

WalkMe Learning Arc courses can be generated using AI.  The generated content can then be modified and additional content added by authors before being distributed to end users.  This approach to content creation is a significant enhancement on existing Enable Now capabilities.

WalkMe Learning Arc content can be delivered through a searchable company portal that contains the ability for users to quickly locate and access relevant content.  WalkMe Learning Arc content, such as simulations, can also be delivered in-application to ensure that it is available for end users as they work in the corresponding applications.

Retaining access to Enable Now Digital Learning content

When considering a transition to the WalkMe platform, it’s important that existing Enable Now Cloud customers determine if they wish to retain access to existing Enable Now digital learning content, such as books, book pages and simulations.  Customers that have invested time, effort and money into creating existing Enable Now digital learning content can continue to leverage that content by loading it onto the WalkMe Learning Arc platform.  Once loaded onto the WalkMe Learning Arc platform, the Enable Now content can be published and distributed to WalkMe Learning Arc end users, just like native WalkMe Learning Arc content objects.

Customers that load their existing Enable Now digital learning content onto the WalkMe Learning Arc platform can continue to update and supplement that content through an integration between WalkMe Learning Arc and Producer.  Enable Now content hosted on the WalkMe Learning Arc platform can continue to be updated, using the Producer integration, until November 30, 2030; even after a customer’s SAP Enable Now subscription has expired.  Following the November 30, 2030 end of life of Enable Now, the Producer integration will no longer be available but customers can continue to distribute, but not update, their Enable Now content through WalkMe Learning Arc.

If Enable Now customers wish to load their existing content onto the WalkMe Learning Arc platform, it’s critical that they license Enable Now and WalkMe Learning Arc simultaneously, i.e. both products must be licensed at the same time.  This is necessary to allow the Enable Now content to be loaded onto the WalkMe Learning Arc platform.  Once customers have loaded their Enable Now content onto the platform and tested that content, they can then allow their Enable Now licenses to expire, while still retaining access to the Producer integration.

Given that customers must subscribe to Enable Now and WalkMe Learning Arc simultaneously, to allow existing content to be loaded onto the WalkMe Learning Arc platform, a specific WalkMe Test and Go Live License, at a significantly reduced cost, is available to allow customers to perform the content transition and testing activities.  Please discuss this license with your SAP or WalkMe sales representative.

When is the right time to transition to the WalkMe platform?

For many existing SAP Enable Now Cloud customers, November 30, 2030 seems a long way off, so no urgency to make a decision about the transition to WalkMe, right?  Unfortunately, April 30, 2027 is the actual date that most Enable Now customers should be considering when thinking about a WalkMe transition, not November 30, 2030.

While the SAP Enable Now Cloud solution will be available and supported until November 30, 2030, for customers with valid subscriptions, renewals of active subscriptions will not be possible beyond April 30, 2027.  This means that for SAP Enable Now Cloud customers, your Enable Now Cloud subscription, with an end date post April 30, 2027, will be Terminated on the end date of your contract.

Assuming no change to the April 30, 2027 final renewal date, one of three scenarios applies to existing Enable Now customers:

  1. Existing SAP Enable Now Cloud customers with a renewal date prior to April 30, 2027 have one final opportunity to renew their Enable Now Cloud subscription.

Customers that choose to renew their SAP Enable Now Cloud subscription should ensure that they agree on a contract end date that allows sufficient time to consider their future digital adoption and learning strategies and to transition to a new platform.  No further renewals of Enable Now Cloud are possible, beyond April 30, 2027.

Customers with a renewal date prior to April 30, 2027 that have decided to transition to the WalkMe platform immediately, rather than renewing their Enable Now Cloud subscription, should consider the information provided above when determining their transition strategy and the WalkMe solutions that they plan to license.  Please allow sufficient time to transition, test, and deploy your existing Enable Now content on the WalkMe Learning Arc platform, before your Enable Now license expires.  Consider obtaining support from SAP, WalkMe, or a WalkMe partner if capacity constraints are likely to impact your ability to transition to WalkMe Learning Arc on your preferred timetable.

  2. Existing SAP Enable Now customers that do not have a renewal due prior to April 30, 2027, and who wish to extend their current contract end date, should contact their SAP CSM or sales representative to discuss the options for an early renewal.

SAP Enable Now Cloud customers with contracts that end after April 30, 2027, and who do not plan to extend their current Enable Now Cloud contract, should ensure that they transition to their new platform prior to the end of their current Enable Now contract.

  3. SAP Enable Now Cloud customers with existing contracts who are interested in moving to the WalkMe platform prior to the end of their current Enable Now contract should discuss their transition options with their SAP CSM or sales representative.  These resources will be able to provide early transition options and additional insights to allow you to make the right decision for your organization.

Conclusion

The practical message is clear: SAP Enable Now customers should start thinking about their transition to WalkMe now.  Enable Now remains available and supported until November 30, 2030 for customers that are licensed; however, the final opportunity to renew your existing Enable Now Cloud licences is April 30, 2027.

Customers that wish to deploy in-application solutions that guide users and automate common, tedious tasks should consider relevant WalkMe Premium or DAP solutions.  These solutions allow customers to identify major frictions in their online workflows, and to develop and deploy solutions that resolve those frictions.

WalkMe Learning Arc allows customers to rapidly develop, in some instances using AI, and deploy learning content, including in application to ensure that employees can access the content continually as they work.  WalkMe Learning Arc provides the capability to continually reinforce the critical knowledge and skills that are essential to operating in a modern work environment.

Existing Enable Now customers must license WalkMe Learning Arc if they wish to retain access to their existing SAP Enable Now digital learning content, including simulations.  Customers with overlapping subscriptions of WalkMe Learning Arc and Enable Now Cloud can load their existing Enable Now content onto the WalkMe platform and distribute it to WalkMe Learning Arc end users.  They can also update their Enable Now content using an integration to Producer, launched from WalkMe Learning Arc.

Please contact your SAP CSM or sales representative with any further questions on this topic.  Good luck with your WalkMe transition and see you on the other side the fence!
