Joule Studio is the factory | Joule is the product, employees experience Joule
For an HR employee approving a leave request, Joule is the AI assistant that answers in plain language. For a developer building that capability, Joule Studio is the IDE where the magic gets authored. They share a name, but they serve entirely different purposes.
Joule Studio | The Builder's Environment
Joule Studio lives inside SAP Build on BTP, a single subaccount that bundles SAP Build Apps, Build Code, Build Work Zone and SAP Build Process Automation (SBPA). It is where AI experts, HR developers and citizen developers come together to create custom HCM capabilities.
Joule | The AI Copilot at Runtime
While Joule Studio is where skills are crafted, Joule is what employees actually talk to. It sits on a dedicated BTP subaccount (the Joule runtime) and is always on listening for queries, understanding intent and routing requests to the right capability.
Quick Note – Joule Studio and Joule are not competing products they are two halves of the same system. If an organisation wants to extend Joule beyond SAP's standard skills, Joule Studio is the path. Everything built in Joule studio lands directly in the Joule experience an employees use.
How They Connect
The two layers are joined by a clear deployment pipeline. Work done at design time in Joule Studio flows directly into Joule's runtime via BTP. They also share a Central Instance Subaccount (CIS) a common control plane that keeps configuration and routing in sync.
