In today's competitive landscape, delivering projects efficiently, on time, and within budget is the cornerstone of success. The 2608 release is packed with innovations designed to bring more intelligence, control, and deep-seated insights to your projects, ultimately driving significant business value. We've focused on accelerating project initiation with AI, providing granular control over planning, and streamlining core processes from document handling to financial tracking.
Let's dive into the highlights that will help you unlock new levels of project success.
Enhancements in Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management
Bringing AI to Project Management – Project Setup Agent
Setting up a new project can be a complex and time-consuming task, often requiring project managers to navigate multiple applications to define the scope, structure, and initial details. This manual effort can delay the start of critical work and introduces the risk of inconsistency. We are incredibly excited to introduce the Project Setup Agent, a new capability powered by our generative AI copilot, Joule. This feature is designed to radically simplify the creation of projects. Instead of clicking through multiple screens, a project manager can now use natural language prompts. For example, “Create a new consulting project for the ‘Phoenix Initiative' based on our standard implementation template, starting next Monday.” Joule then leverages historical data and reusable project components to accelerate planning and execution. You can also staff key resources once the project is created thereby allowing them to record their times against the project.
This AI-powered assistant promises dramatic efficiency gains, condensing a multi-application process into a single, swift conversation that saves significant time and effort for your project managers. This intuitive, conversational approach makes project creation accessible to everyone, drastically reducing the learning curve. By leveraging successful past projects as a foundation, the Project Setup Agent also helps ensure that new projects are set up consistently and in compliance with your company's standards right from the start.

Additional Capabilities for Project Planning and Scheduling
In complex projects, a lack of precision in planning can lead to missed deadlines and budget overruns. Project managers need sophisticated tools to model real-world dependencies and manage timelines effectively from both a high-level and a detailed perspective. To solve this, our 2608 release introduces a suite of additional scheduling capabilities to provide more granular control over your project timelines. This includes top-down scheduling, which facilitates high-level planning by automatically propagating dates to detailed tasks. We have also introduced advanced work package dependencies, including Finish-to-Start (FS), Finish-to-Finish (FF), Start-to-Start (SS), and Start-to-Finish (SF), to increase planning accuracy and reflect complex logistical relationships.
Furthermore, the ability to create local work packages and milestones allows project managers to add granular detail to the operational plan while preserving the project's stable financial structure.

Enhanced document categorization with additional meta data fields
Inconsistent classification and weak access controls are common pain points in project document management. This can lead to disorganized repositories where sensitive information is at risk and finding the right data is a constant challenge. To address this, we have delivered a suite of enhancements for advanced document classification and access management. First, we've enabled flexible and consistent document management using a combination of standard metadata and fully customizable fields. Second, we have strengthened security with project-level permissions and granular deletion controls.
These enhancements deliver a more secure, consistent, and traceable document management experience.

Faster document review with in-app preview
The Manage Documents list UI provides an intuitive document viewing experience by enabling users to instantly preview PDFs, images, and text files directly within the application. This seamless rendering capability eliminates the need to download files or open external applications, allowing users to remain focused within a single interface and maintain productivity throughout the review process. By supporting the preview of multiple documents in a continuous, uninterrupted view, users can quickly scan content, compare files, and identify the correct document without unnecessary navigation or context switching. As a result, document discovery and review become faster, more efficient, and more user-friendly, helping users access information with minimal effort and maximum workflow continuity.

Manage Request Assignments
Resource managers are constantly juggling demands from multiple projects, and efficiently staffing multiple roles can be a time-consuming process.
To address this pain point, we are introducing the “Assign”-Feature in the Manage Request Assignments app. This powerful functionality is designed to accelerate the staffing of multiple resources to a resource request by providing distribution methods how the requested efforts can be distributed.
This new feature provides resource managers with unprecedented transparency across projects and cross-project staffing. It offers the flexibility to assign multiple resources with varying assignment durations and effort distributions, allowing resource managers to optimize resource allocation. This ensures you can get the right people on the right tasks faster.
The SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition 2608 release for EPPM is all about making your project management more intelligent, controlled, and insightful. From ensuring a single source of truth to simplifying daily tasks for every project role, these innovations are designed to deliver tangible business value and set you up for success.

Further innovations
EVENT triggering capability for Issue Object in SPRM PM
This enhancement enables real-time, event-driven integration by automatically notifying connected systems whenever issues are created or changed, ensuring that status updates and business actions are immediately shared across integrated applications. The generated events include comprehensive issue metadata, including details of any changes made, as well as who performed the action, what was changed, and when the change occurred, providing greater transparency, traceability, and synchronization between systems.
APIs to Create and Change Users in SPRM PM
This enhancement enables customer system administrators to manage users directly through SPRM APIs, providing the ability to update existing user information—such as email addresses and last names—as well as create new users without manual intervention. By supporting both user maintenance and user creation via API, the solution streamlines user administration, improves automation capabilities, and simplifies integration with external identity and user management processes.
Enhancement of Enterprise Project Migration Object
Customers can now create milestones under projects or WBS elements using the new Milestones sheet. In addition, for revenue projects, they can define a revenue recognition key for the billing element, while for investment projects, they can configure the project header’s Settlement Rule Maintenance either with or without the pass-down option, providing greater flexibility in project setup and financial management. Find more on the help portal.
CDS views for Long text and Status Area (including comments)
A new CDS view for Status Area information, including comments, is now available for extraction, enabling improved reporting and analytics. Additionally, a CDS view for long texts has been introduced, allowing users to access and view detailed long-text descriptions associated with Enterprise Project elements. Find more on the help portal.
DRF Replication
If DRF replication is enabled for WBS Elements, the WBS Elements will be replicated immediately to target systems when they are “Released”.
Settlement Rules – Mass Maintain (API)
Customers can mass-maintain distribution rules on the WBS Elements using this API. Find more on the help portal.
Project Financial Booklet added to Project Finance Controller
Project Financial Booklet – Enterprise Projects ( F8698 ) has been added to Project Financial Controller template role. The application helps you analyze project margins and other key financial figures for enterprise projects.
