Running a Lite Assessment: My Way Through It
The Pre-Assessment is something I largely run from my desk documents, an Excel export, maybe a call or two. The Lite Assessment is the opposite: it's hands-on, workshop-driven, and it only works if I actually sit down with the people who use the system every day. Below is how I actually run one, start to finish, and what the customer walks away with at the end.
On bigger engagements, this isn't a one-person show. A typical Lite or Deep Assessment team splits into a few roles: a functional consultant who owns the business process review and leads the process deep dive workshops, a technical/extensibility consultant who runs the AssessMate analysis on custom code and objects and walks the customer through tools like TransforMate and CBOM, and an integration consultant who covers standard and custom integrations. Depending on the engagement, I've played more than one of those roles myself — but I'll walk through the path end to end here, since that's the part that matters for understanding the assessment, regardless of how many people are actually in the room.
