The 2608 release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition for Retail, Fashion, and Vertical Business arrives on the back of strong momentum in the first half of 2026 from customer adoption through to innovation delivery.  The 2608 release itself has been delivered as planned, continuing a consistent roadmap fulfilment. In this blog I'll deep divine into 3 of the key innovations delivered with 2608, but  beyond that, 2608 also expands country availability with eleven new localisations — Croatia, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Serbia, Slovenia, Taiwan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and Bulgaria — bringing SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition for Retail on par in terms of geographic coverage.

Here is a quick summary of some of the innovations delivered in a short video:

Unified Commerce: Bringing Digital Promotions to the Storefront

One of the most impactful additions in 2608 is the deep integration between SAP Omnichannel Promotion Pricing Service (OPPS) and S/4HANA Cloud in-store sales order processing. For retailers already using OPPS to manage complex promotions across their point-of-sale, web, and mobile channels, a critical gap previously existed: sales orders created by store associates in S/4HANA did not benefit from the same centrally managed promotion logic. That gap is now closed.

OPPS is a cloud-based promotion and pricing engine purpose-built for sophisticated retail scenarios. It supports a wide range of promotion types — from simple percentage discounts to multi-item bundle deals — that go far beyond what is available natively in S/4HANA Cloud Retail. With 2608, OPPS becomes the single source of truth for promotions across every channel, including in-store sales orders.

When a store associate creates a sales order using the Manage In-Store Sales Orders app (F7141) (or the Manage Sales Orders v2 app – F3893), the system automatically calls OPPS to check eligibility and apply applicable promotions in real time. Discounts are applied directly to qualifying line items, and free goods — such as a “buy one, get one” or bonus item scenario — are automatically added as additional order lines. All relevant promotion and rule IDs are captured on the order for full traceability and back-tracking.

Out of the box, SAP delivers a few best-practice scenarios as part of the new scope item 7Z6: a standard percentage discount (for example, 10% off a specific product), a fixed price promotion (for example, 1,99 EUR for a specific product) and a Bonus Buy scenario (for example, buy a camera and receive a camera bag for free):

Beyond these, the framework is highly extensible — retailers can configure additional condition purposes and condition types to support scenarios such as fixed-price promotions, cart-level discounts, and mix-and-match deals.

The result is a consistent promotional pricing experience across POS, e-commerce, call centres, and in-store sales orders — all administered centrally, with minimal duplication and manual effort.

Getting started requires activating scope item 7Z6, configuring the Communication Arrangement for scenario SAP_COM_0B06, and setting up message monitoring via the Application Integration Framework (AIF). Full setup documentation is available on the SAP Help Portal, and the best practice content — including the two out-of-box scenarios — can be found in the SAP Process Navigator. Note that OPPS is a separately licensed product; customers interested in this integration should confirm their licensing position before activating.

Smarter Store Operations: Enhancements to the Receive Products App

Not every innovation needs to be architecturally ambitious to make a real difference. The enhancements to the Receive Products Fiori app in 2608 are a clear example of targeted improvements that address genuine pain points for store associates managing day-to-day goods receipt.

Zero-Quantity Receipts and Delivery Completed Indicator

Until now, when a vendor failed to deliver some or all of the items on a purchase order, store associates had no way to reflect that reality directly in the Receive Products app. The PO lines would remain open, creating inaccurate procurement books and requiring time-consuming back-office coordination to close them manually. Similarly, when a distribution centre partially fulfilled a stock transfer order and was unable to ship the remaining quantity, stores faced the same problem.

With 2608, store associates can now post a zero-quantity receipt directly against a purchase order or inbound delivery line. When the received quantity meets or matches expectations — or when a deliberate zero posting is made — the system automatically sets the Delivery Completed Indicator (DCI), closing the PO line cleanly without any back-office intervention. This reduces manual errors, cleans up procurement books, and gives store teams more autonomy over the receiving process.

Label Printing from Goods Receipt

The second enhancement allows store associates to trigger product label printing directly from within the Receive Products app at the point of goods receipt. Previously, label printing required switching to a separate dedicated application — an extra step that could be missed entirely during a busy receiving process.

By integrating label print requests into the goods receipt workflow itself, SAP reduces the risk of missing labels, cuts down on unnecessary app switching, and makes the receiving process more efficient end to end. This is also a foundation for future enhancements, with plans underway for mass label printing capabilities and potential integration of shelf label printing in subsequent releases.

Both enhancements are available within the existing Receive Products app (F1248) and require no additional scope activation beyond the standard retail scope. Full documentation for the updated app is available on the SAP Help Portal.

Demand and Inventory Segmentation: A Foundation for Fashion Retailers

The third highlight in 2608 marks a significant milestone for fashion customers on S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition: the first wave of demand and inventory segmentation, delivered as new scope item 82X.

Fashion retailers face a uniquely complex fulfilment challenge. A single pool of inventory must serve multiple, distinct demand streams simultaneously — retail stores, dedicated e-commerce channels, and B2B wholesale accounts, each with different SLAs, delivery schedules, and legal requirements. Without a systematic way to match supply to demand by channel, the result is chronic misallocation: the wrong stock ends up in the wrong place, leading to stockouts in one channel while another sits on excess inventory.

Segmentation solves this by introducing explicit identifiers — called segmentation characteristics — across demand, supply, and inventory. A retailer defines a segmentation structure (for example, a characteristic called “Sales Channel” with values for Retail, E-Commerce, and B2B), combines it into a strategy with specific fulfilment rules, and assigns it to relevant products at the distribution centre level. From that point forward, the system ensures that a B2B order can only be fulfilled from B2B-segmented stock, an e-commerce order from e-commerce-segmented stock, and so on.

The 2608 delivery covers the core foundation:

  • Product enablement — create segmentation structures and strategies using the new Manage Product Segmentation app, and assign products to the segmentation fold
  • Inventory segmentation — post and manage segmented stock using existing Fiori and WebGUI apps, with batch management used to carry the segmentation attribute; automatic batch determination is supported on goods receipt and transfer postings
  • Sales order segmentation — assign a requirement segment at the sales order line level; the segment flows automatically through to outbound delivery, ensuring the right stock is picked at fulfilment

This is the first of a phased delivery. Procure-to-pay enablement — covering purchase orders and inbound deliveries — is planned for 2702, with product availability, MRP, replenishment planning, and manufacturing support to follow in subsequent releases.

It is worth being clear about what is and is not in scope for 2608, since the phased approach is deliberate. Segmentation is enabled for distribution centres only — not stores. Batch management is mandatory, as the segmentation attribute is carried at the batch level. The 2608 scope covers inventory management and sales order processes; procure-to-pay (purchase orders, inbound deliveries) is planned for 2702. Product availability checking, MRP, replenishment planning, and manufacturing support are planned for subsequent releases beyond that.

Conclusion

The 2608 release strengthens SAP's retail and fashion capabilities with innovations that span the full breadth of operational priorities. OPPS integration brings unified, real-time promotional pricing to in-store sales orders — ensuring customers experience consistent offers wherever they shop. Enhancements to the Receive Products app empower store teams to manage vendor non-delivery scenarios and label printing more efficiently, without back-office support. And the introduction of demand and inventory segmentation lays the architectural foundation that fashion retailers need to serve multiple channels reliably from a single inventory pool.

The road ahead points toward AI-driven automation that will reshape how retailers introduce products, manage stores, and serve customers. The foundation being built today — in cloud architecture, integrated data, and unified commerce — is precisely what will make those agentic scenarios possible tomorrow.
