As announced in the SAP BTP release notes and via system-side messages, over the coming months SAP is retiring two older application stacks — cflinuxfs3 and cflinuxfs4 — and making cflinuxfs5 (Ubuntu 24.04 “Noble”) the default in the SAP BTP, CloudFoundry Runtime. This keeps your applications running on an operating system that still receives maintenance and security updates. The full technical schedule is documented in SAP Note 3794333.

Here is the good news: for most applications, upgrading is as simple as pushing with a new stack. This post walks through the information from SAP in more detail. What exactly changes, when, and — most importantly — what you can do to keep your applications secure and up to date.
