It's Monday morning. The CFO asks a simple question: can we cover payroll in six weeks if the big customer payment slips again?
Three answers come back. Treasury has one number from the cash position report. FP&A has another, built on a different exchange rate assumption. And somewhere there's a file called Liquidity_Forecast_FINAL_v3_useThisOne.xlsx, last touched by someone who left the company in March.
Nobody is lying. Everybody is looking at a different slice of reality, updated at a different time, using a different method. This isn't really a data problem. Companies today have more cash flow data than they know what to do with. It's a decision problem: turning that data into one trusted answer, fast enough to act on.
