SAP PaPM Cloud Standard Model: Notification Management In User Preferences

This blog post introduces the enhanced Notifications section under User Preferences in SAP Profitability and Performance Management Cloud Standard Model (SAP PaPM Cloud SM). This feature allows you to configure your notification preferences by selecting which notification types you receive and for which environments, resulting in a more focused and relevant notification experience.

Note

This feature is dependent on the notifications configuration performed by system administrators on a global level via Settings → Global Notification Settings.

Notification Management Overview

Navigation path: User Profile → User Preferences → Notifications

The Notifications tab replaces the previous notification settings in User Preferences and introduces two dedicated sub-tabs:

Notification Types – Allows you to configure the types of notifications you want to receive, and the delivery channels through which they are sent.
Environments – Allows you to specify the environments for which you receive notifications.

Notification Types Tab

The Notification Types tab displays a table listing all available notification categories. Each row represents a notification type, while each column corresponds to a delivery channel. You can independently activate or deactivate each notification type for each available delivery channel.

The following notification types are available for configuration:

Activity changes
Private environment changes
Process changes
Scheduled jobs
Team changes

For example, you can choose to receive Activity changes notifications through the in-app channel only, while keeping multiple delivery channels enabled for Scheduled jobs notifications. This level of granularity ensures that you receive updates through the channels that best suit your workflow and preferences.

How Global Notification Settings Affect User Preferences

Some in-app or email notification types cannot be activated or deactivated by users because they are configured by an administrator at the system level.

Example:

Let's assume that your administrator has configured the global notification settings as follows:

Activity changes → Always send
Private environment changes → Always send
Process changes → Allow users to manage settings
Scheduled jobs → Allow users to manage settings
Team changes → Never send

In this scenario, the only notification categories that you can configure in User Preferences → Notifications are Process changes and Scheduled jobs. The settings for all other notification categories are managed centrally by your administrator and cannot be changed by individual users.

Environments Tab

The Environments tab allows you to define the scope of environments for which notifications are generated. The following options are available:

All environments – You receive notifications for changes that occur in all environments to which you have access.
Select environments – You can choose the specific environments for which you want to receive notifications.
All environments with the exception of – You receive notifications for changes that occur in all accessible environments, except those that you explicitly exclude.

When you select Select environments or All environments except, use the search field and the scrollable list of environments to specify the environments to include or exclude from notifications.
