And we begin today’s article with a look at the new AI innovations.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Our AI strategy for Logistics and Warehousing is driven by a clear ambition: to help businesses overcome the growing labor and resource challenges in warehouse execution. With this latest release, we continue to build on that vision, reinforcing our long-term strategy and moving another step closer to a smarter, more resilient warehouse operation of the future through intelligent predictive analytics that forecast current and future workloads and through new EWM Agents, which turns insights into executable actions. We enhance everyday warehouse activities with natural language-based interactions with Joule to streamline outbound processes.
Predictive Labor Demand Planning (pLDP) feature enrichment
Building up on the work we have done in the previous releases, with this latest update Predictive Labor Demand Planning (LDP) takes several steps forward, by introducing forecast accuracy evaluation, enhanced APIs support for packing and staging, and a range of user-experience enhancement across the KPI app, monitoring tools, and application logs. A standout addition is the new LDP forecast accuracy KPI card in the FIORI Warehouse KPI app, which uses a 7-day look-back to compare forecasted workload against actual results. Users can drill down by activity area or process step and toggle between absolute and relative deviation views, making it easier to adjust planning and spot trends at a glance.
On the integration side, the Handling Unit API and the Warehouse Order & Task API now support LDP workload recording for custom-built warehouse confirmation applications. Customers can now leverage the standard labor demand planning features, by enhancing their calling application and providing a start time for the corresponding activity, giving development teams greater flexibility into tailored workflows.
Furthermore, we deliver a new Odata service to support the integration between predictive Labor Demand Planning and the new Warehouse Workload Optimization agent, released in October 2026 for Early Adopter Care program and selected customer groups, as part of SAP’s Logistics Assistant. The agent will provide the relevant labor demand data to optimize workloads for various resources within the warehouse with accuracy and efficiency.
Please take a look at the collective SAP note 3577311 which collects the released features per feature pack and downport possibilities.
We will shortly release a separate blog post covering the release and functionalities of the new Warehouse Workload Optimization agent, so if you want to find out more about the new optimization capabilities available for SAP EWM, please stay tuned.
Joule: Talk to your warehouse in outbound processes
And that’s not everything we delivered in terms of AI functionalities with this release. Joule can now converse directly with warehouse users to streamline outbound processes through natural language. Whether you need to create, cancel, or confirm warehouse tasks, set or reverse the “Ready for Shipping” status, or post and cancel goods issues, Joule handles it all through a simple conversation, guiding users through multiple screens to get things done. Beyond executing actions, Joule also acts as a troubleshooting partner, helping users investigate blocking reasons on EWM Outbound Delivery Orders (ODOs) and guiding them toward quick resolutions. It’s a smarter, more intuitive way to keep your warehouse moving.
ADVANCED SHIPPING & RECEIVING
Integration between transportation and warehouse logistics is a significant contributor towards logistics efficiency, synchronizing process changes between warehouse and transportation, reducing overall logistics-costs by optimizing and streamlining freight planning with warehouse execution. To further tighten this integration, with this release we provide the following enhancements options.
- Enhancement concept for product hierarchy integration – we have expanded advanced shipping and receiving with support for the Kit-to-Order (KTO) process, unlocking greater flexibility for outbound operations. This release enables KTO across multiple process variants, including warehouse-driven ODO split, transportation-driven ODO split, and late transportation-driven ODO split (triggered at loading completion), all designed with one clear goal in mind: keeping item hierarchies consistent throughout the end-to-end process. It’s worth noting that nested BOM hierarchies and inbound processes are currently out of scope. This enhancement options is fully supported for both embedded and decentral ASR deployments, giving you the flexibility to adopt it in the setup that best fits your landscape.
- New SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) integration BAdI – we introduced a new Business Add-in (BAdI) for SAP Global Trade Services (GTS) integration, giving customers even greater flexibility when it comes to compliance checks in outbound processes. Through the existing BAdI /SCWM/EX_GTS_PARAMETERS, additional products, such as components of finished articles that aren’t part of the EWM Outbound Delivery Order, can now be included in the GTS compliance check. Complementing this, the newly introduced BAdI /SCWM/EX_GTS_CHECK_RESULT allows the compliance check results for those additional product items to be evaluated and the aggregated check result to be influenced. To keep the integration compliant, results can only be adjusted following a conservative strategy, meaning an “OK” result can be changed to “NOT OK”, but not the other way around. As with our other enhancements, this feature is supported for both embedded and decentral ASR scenarios.
CONTINUOUS MODERNIZATION & SIMPLIFICATION
Our commitment to modernization and continuous improvements not only enhances functionality but also provides users with a seamless and intuitive interaction, helping businesses drive efficiency, optimize processes, and deliver superior experiences to their stakeholders. To that end, I would like to highlight the following features from this latest release.
Warehouse order streaming – pick path optimization
One of the biggest and exciting highlights of this release is the introduction of warehouse order streaming, also called the ‘Pick-Path Optimization’ for SAP Extended Warehouse Management. This powerful new capability, which is directly embedded in EWM, is designed to make order picking faster and smarter, particularly in e-commerce and retail scenarios where pick-card based picking of small orders is common. With this feature, EWM Warehouse Orders can be flexibly created or re-bundled based on local EWM optimization algorithms that take both the optimal pick path and the resource (type) layout into account, helping pickers move through the warehouse more efficiently and reducing unnecessary travel time.
The pick-path optimization supports different key process steps, including System-Guided RF Picking and/or Wave Release, and can be activated and configured flexibly per queue, activity area, and warehouse order creation rule to match your operational needs. To help you find the best setup, the feature also supports simulation and algorithm comparison, with results visualized directly through the EWM Graphic Warehouse Layout (GWL), making it easy to evaluate different strategies before rolling them out on the floor.
Renovation in Segmentation processes with EWM
We’re excited to introduce several comprehensive enhancements in EWM Segmentation, making it easier than ever to work with segmented stock across your warehouse processes. Previously, using segmentation required a dedicated characteristic in the batch master but with this release, that requirement is gone. For batch-managed products and articles, there’s no longer a need to enhance batch characteristics just to use segmentation, simplifying setup and reducing maintenance overhead. The new capability also allows the validation of the stock segment to be skipped when it meets your business needs.
To put this into context: while batch classification describes stock and its detailed properties (like expiration date, production date, or country of origin) without being limited to predefined values, stock segmentation offers a logical or commercial division of stock using predefined values, helping to improve planning, forecasting, and material distribution.
With this release, segmentation is supported across a broad range of processes, including inbound processing (with GR Preparation and RF Receiving), putaway with exception handling, outbound processing, ad-hoc warehouse tasks and movements, picking with exception handling, posting changes, staging for and receiving from production, MES-driven staging, physical inventory, Goods Receipt Preparation (GRPI) for production, stock migration via the Migration Cockpit, initial stock upload (via /SCWM/ISU), and the planned customer return process, giving consistent, end-to-end segmentation support wherever it matters. We have also created a collective SAP note 3734726 which contains all details including corrective notes, and customers can select to implement based on their business processes.
Other modernization and optimization enhancements
Aside from the highlights mentioned above, here is a quick rundown of some more optimization and modernization enhancements delivered with this release:
- Close HU in RF Packing Transaction – we have enhanced the Radio Frequency (RF) Packing transaction. Now users can close Handling Unit packing steps (process-oriented storage control) directly from the RF packing transaction without having to navigate to a separate transaction.
- ERP Integration for Migration Cockpit – we enabled stock updates in ERP to happen directly during migration. This enhancement is particularly interesting for customers who run both – ERP (e.g. greenfield) and EWM (e.g. migration) transformation projects in parallel. To make this possible, a new EWM setting has been introduced that activates ERP integration for stock migration, giving you full control over when and how it’s applied. Best of all, the feature is supported for both migration approaches — staging tables and direct transfer — ensuring a smoother, more consistent migration experience regardless of the path you choose.
- International Organization for Standardization (ISO) unit of measure support for WCU IDocs – with this feature, you can use units of measure supported by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in Warehouse Control Unit (WCU) IDoc communication. Using ISO-compliant units of measure contributes to standardized communication of quantities across SAP and external systems, reducing mapping efforts, and improving reliability of warehouse task processing across system boundaries. This feature adds new versions of the IDoc for sending and receiving WTs to a non-SAP system (IDoc /SCWM/WMTOID01) and the IDoc for confirming warehouse tasks (IDoc /SCWM/WMTCID01) that include fields for ISO-compliant units of measure in addition to the existing internal units of measure.
- New Warehouse Monitor node to monitor PPF actions – with this release we have also made it easier to monitor and manage Post Processing Framework (PPF) actions via the EWM Warehouse Monitor. You can now select and work with PPF actions directly from the monitor, using the dedicated PPF Actions node to search for actions that have been successfully processed, failed, or are still pending execution. Users can look across multiple PPF applications and apply PPF-specific selection criteria to zero in on exactly what is needed. Once you’ve made your selection, the system gives you a clear view of each action’s processing status, PPF application, action definition, and other relevant details. For actions that have already been processed, you can dive into the processing log to investigate further. And to help you work more efficiently, a new monitor method called Process lets you execute up to 50 PPF actions at a time, turning what used to be a repetitive task into a quick, streamlined action.
SUITE INTEGRATION
Integration is a core pillar of our investments, by which we provide a deep and native integration with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud solution components, along with other SAP cloud solution offerings for seamless integration of comprehensive logistics end-to-end processes incl. production integration, customs processing and more. With SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition 2025, FPS2 we deliver the following enhancements.
With this release we introduce two new logistics follow-on actions for Advanced Returns Management (ARM): Refurbishment using Maintenance Order (0036) and Refurbishment using Production Order (0037). When a returned and one of the two new follow-up actions is selected, a new Initiator process code (ARF) per follow-up action kicks in, triggering either an EWM Posting Change or an Outbound Delivery Order to set the refurbishment process in motion. The decision to refurbish can be made early on by a sales representative at returns order creation, or later by a receiving clerk during material inspection — giving teams flexibility at every stage. The solution supports a range of scenarios, whether you’re working with EWM-managed or IM-managed storage locations, and handles the full flow from receiving and inspection through to refurbishment. To keep things traceable, the Inspection Reference is stored as a stock attribute for unique identification, and the feature works seamlessly across both embedded and decentral EWM deployments.
Partial Goods Issue for Batch-Managed Component Consumption in Manufacturing
One other enhancement for the topic of production integration worth highlighting is the informational gap that occurs sometimes between the physical reality on the shop floor and what's reflected in the system.
As an example, let us assume there are 10 pieces of Batch A physically sitting in the Production Supply Area (PSA), but the system only shows 6. This can occur because the warehouse task that moved the other 4 pieces hasn't been confirmed yet, even if the components were already delivered. So, when the production worker goes to record the consumption, they enter all 10 pieces that were used. The system can only post a goods issue for the 6 pieces it knows about, and the remaining 4 end up flagged in the Reprocess Goods Movements app (COGI) for follow-up. With this new enhancement, we can better support these exceptional situations.
When it comes to batch-managed components, the system applies different quantity split variants depending on how your process is set up. If you use batch determination and haven’t specified a component batch in your manufacturing order, the system posts the available quantity and automatically creates a postprocessing record for the missing amount. You can then handle the remainder using the Reprocess Goods Movements app (transaction COGI) and in this scenario, the Goods Issue Quantity Split checkbox in your production scheduling profile doesn’t come into play.
On the other hand, if you’re not using batch determination and enter the batch number during production confirmation, the Goods Issue Quantity Split checkbox becomes relevant and controls how the split is handled. The same applies when you specify a component batch directly in the manufacturing order. The batch determination isn’t needed in that case, but the checkbox does take effect.
Quality Management integration feature enrichments
Finally, when it comes to Suite integration, as with every release, we further deepened the capabilities of Quality Management integration via the following updates:
- Enhancement for container-based sample size calculation – we introduced the capability to automatically derive the number and type of containers during inspection lot creation, whether that happens at goods receipt or during early warehouse task creation. This enhancement is supported in ‘IOT4 – Q-Inspection Product/Batch Inbound Delivery’, helping quality teams save time and improve consistency right from the start of the inbound process. To give full flexibility, a new customizing option lets you define the container count mode for both packed and unpacked scenarios. For packed stock, the count can be derived from handling units — either at the highest or lowest level — while for unpacked stock, the system can use stock-specific units of measure (SUoM) or a packaging specification to determine the count. And for teams with unique requirements, a new BAdI (/SCWM/EX_QM_CONT_COUNT_DETN) in enhancement spot /SCWM/ES_QM_INSP is available for custom implementations. The feature is supported for both embedded and decentral EWM deployments, with the restriction that the QM component is in SAP S/4HANA 2022 or later.
- Prevent partial usage decision in case of missing required quality certificate – for products that require a quality certificate, we introduced a safeguard to ensure that a partial usage decision can now only be made once the receipt of the quality certificate has been confirmed. During EWM partial usage decision processing, the system checks against the Inspection Lot certificate status “CTCM – Certificate Missing”, preventing premature decisions when documentation isn’t yet in place. To give full control, a new customizing option allows the certificate check to be enabled per EWM Inspection Object Type (IOT), so you can tailor the behavior to fit your specific quality processes. The feature is supported for both embedded EWM deployments (including synchronous goods receipt) and decentral EWM deployments.
