IBOP – From Sub-Item Adjustments to Main-Item Mastery: Unlocking Alternative-Based Confirmations!

If you haven't already, have a look at our previous blogs in this series to see how Interactive Backorder Processing (IBOP) evolved from its initial 2023 FPS03 launch to the constraint-busting Unrestricted Checks in 2025 FPS0 and the Rounding Capabilities, System Proposals, etc., in 2025 FPS1.

Now, with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition 2025 FPS2, we are taking another massive leap forward! This release introduces full support for Alternative-Based Confirmation (ABC) Main Items directly within your interactive worklist, alongside powerful new extensibility options.

Why ABC in Interactive BOP?

Imagine you are an Order Fulfillment Specialist dealing with an urgent supply shortage for a high-value sales order. In standard processing, if the primary plant or storage location is out of stock, your order gets backordered or delayed.

Alternative-Based Confirmation (ABC) acts as an automated fallback mechanism during ATP checks to solve this exact problem by dynamically scouting alternative plants, storage locations, or substitute products.

In earlier releases, IBOP only allowed users to review and tweak existing ABC sub-items after they were already generated. If you wanted to re-evaluate the main item to trigger fresh alternatives, you couldn't do it directly within the interactive app. 2025 FPS2 changes the game entirely!

2025 FPS2 Release Highlights

1. Full Integration of ABC Main Items & Hierarchy Tree View

Starting with 2025 FPS2, you can load ABC Main Items into your IBOP worklist right from the requirement selection wizard by enabling the “Include Main Item” option or directly via the Select Option Tool by defining appropriate conditions.

  • Hierarchical Tree View: Requirements are loaded into a clear, intuitive tree structure showing the parent main item alongside its child sub-items.

  • Flexible Worklist Control: You can now perform mass recheck actions (Improve, Redistribute, Lose) at the main-item level or target specific sub-items individually.

2. Dynamic Sub-Item Generation & Mass Rechecks

When you trigger a recheck on an ABC main item, the system automatically evaluates your maintained alternative determination configurations.

  • Automated Sourcing: The ATP check evaluates available alternatives and automatically generates a new set of delta sub-items – adding new alternative sourcing lines, updating existing ones, or removing obsolete lines.
  • Third-Party Order Processing (TPOP) Support: The release also supports main-item rechecks in partial TPOP scenarios, where customer orders are redirected to external vendors or internal sourcing plants when local inventory is unavailable.

What Partial TPOP with Main-Item Rechecks Means?

  • Dynamic Sourcing Integration: When an order cannot be fulfilled from local warehouse stock, an ATP check on the ABC main item can determine a third-party vendor (TPOP) as an alternative sourcing line.
  • Rechecking Main Items: In IBOP, fulfillment specialists can now recheck the main item of an order that involves partial TPOP, allowing the system to re-evaluate vendor confirmations and local stock simultaneously.
  • Purchase Order (PO) Confirmations: If a TPOP requirement already has active Purchase Order confirmations from a vendor, those quantities are automatically subtracted from the open requested and confirmed amounts before the recheck is executed.

3. Enhanced Extensibility: BAdI for Fixed Date & Quantity (FIXMG)

To give businesses maximum flexibility, 2025 FPS2 introduces a dedicated Business Add-In (BAdI) enhancement point: ATP_IBOP_ENHANCE_REQUIREMENTS.

  • Automated Confirmation Protection: Key Users / Developers can now implement custom business logic to automatically set or update the Fixed Date and Quantity (FIXMG) indicator for schedule lines following an ATP recheck.
  • Custom Governance: This ensures your automated rules can lock in vital confirmations based on your organization's unique operational priorities.

The Verdict

The 2025 FPS2 release bridges the gap between intelligent automated sourcing and interactive manual control. By combining ABC main-item evaluation with custom BAdI extensibility, Interactive Backorder Processing gives fulfillment specialists the ultimate control to maximize confirmations and keep customers happy, even in the toughest supply chain bottlenecks!

The journey doesn't stop here – keep an eye out for upcoming features on the horizon, from ODL integration to advanced alternative determinations, designed to make your fulfillment operations even smarter. Stay tuned!
