SAP Business One 10.0 FP 2608 brings a nice enhancement to User-Defined Values (UDV): a new way to trigger a formula based on events.
If you've worked with UDV formulas (mathematical or logical), you know that for a formula to run automatically, you need to define a trigger – a field on the form that, when changed by the user, activates the formula and populates the target field.
This works well in many cases. But what if you want the formula to run when the user clicks ‘Add’ or ‘Update’, rather than when a specific field changes? Before FP 2608, that wasn't possible.
FP 2608 introduces two new triggering options:
– On events – the formula runs automatically when the document is Added or Updated. No trigger field needed.
– On field changes or events – a combined mode: the formula runs both when a trigger field changes or when the document is Added or Updated.
The existing trigger on field change only is still available.
Example: assume you have a UDF called ‘Last Modified By' on a sales order, and you want it to always store the name of the user who last saved the document. With the new events option, the formula simply runs on every Add or Update.

This is a small but impactful change – it lets UDV formulas respond to the most natural user action: adding or saving a document.
