Smarter Account Intelligence in SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2: Account Synopsis and Executive Summary
Why Account Context is Still a CX Problem
A seller has a customer meeting in 15 minutes.
The account record contains years of activity history, open opportunities, service interactions, stakeholder changes, and strategic account planning data.
Everything the seller needs is technically available, but finding what matters is a different challenge.
Meanwhile, on the service side, an agent picks up a call from a long-standing customer. The case history is there. The contracts are there. But the agent has no idea what this company actually does, what market they operate in, or whether there is an upsell opportunity sitting right in front of them.
This is one of the most common problems in modern customer-facing organizations; whether sales or service. Teams rarely struggle because they lack data. They struggle because important context is scattered across multiple sources and requires time to complete the puzzle.
As a result:
- New account managers spend weeks getting up to speed.
- Sales reps walk into meetings with incomplete context.
- Service agents handle interactions without understanding the customer’s broader business.
- Strategic account reviews become exercises in information gathering rather than strategy.
- The gap is no longer data availability, but understanding.
This is exactly where Account Synopsis and Account Plan Executive Summary in SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 enter the picture. Both use Generative AI to reduce the effort required to understand an account; yet they solve different problems, and they serve different audiences.
Two Features. Two Different Questions.
A useful way to understand these capabilities is to focus on the business question each one answers.
Account Synopsis
Account Synopsis answers: “Who is this customer and what is happening in their world?”
It combines publicly available company information with account master data to create a quick business briefing directly inside the Account record. The key word here is external: this feature reaches beyond your CRM to pull in market intelligence you would otherwise spend time Googling.
Account Synopsis is available in both SAP Sales Cloud V2 and SAP Service Cloud V2, but the use case differs by role:
- For sales reps, it is a meeting preparation tool: building account context before discovery sessions, executive introductions, and account handovers.
- For service agents, it is a real-time context layer: surfaced during customer interactions to help agents facilitate targeted conversations and identify upsell or cross-sell opportunities on the spot.
Account Plan Executive Summary (Sales Cloud V2 Only)
The Executive Summary answers: “What is our strategy for this account and how are we progressing?”
Instead of relying on external company information, it looks inward. It uses Account Plan content already maintained inside Sales Cloud: goals, SWOT analyses, action plans, business figures, and pipeline information to generate a concise strategic narrative.
This feature is specific to SAP Sales Cloud V2, because it is tied to Account Plans: a concept that lives in the sales planning workflow. It is not available in Service Cloud V2.
This makes it valuable for:
- Quarterly Business Reviews
- Strategic account reviews
- Leadership briefings
- Customer planning sessions
Where These Features Sit in SAP’s AI Strategy
SAP’s AI portfolio within Sales and Service Cloud V2 includes predictive Machine Learning, Generative AI capabilities, and the emerging layer of AI agents. Account Synopsis and Executive Summary sit firmly within the Generative AI category because their purpose is not prediction. Their purpose is synthesis.
Instead of trying to forecast future outcomes, they transform large amounts of information into structured narratives that humans can consume quickly. The goal is not to tell a seller or service agent what decision to make, but to help them reach a decision faster.
Both features are delivered as part of the Joule Premium for Customer Experience package and are embedded into SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 AI capabilities.
In practical terms: the intelligence behind these features is not some standalone AI experiment. It is deeply wired into the platform you are already using, whether that platform serves your sales team, your service team, or both.
A Closer Look at Account Synopsis
Opening an Account Synopsis generates a structured view of the customer across several configurable dimensions. Administrators can choose which of the following to expose to users:
- Overall Information
- Business Overview
- Typical Customers
- Competitive Landscape
- Culture and Background
- Business Strategies
Together, these sections create a quick overview of the organization that goes well beyond what is typically stored in CRM records. The AI consumes external, publicly available data about the company in real-time, delivering market intelligence as a structured synopsis directly in a dedicated AI Synopsis tab within the Account detail view. Each generation or regeneration counts as one AI unit transaction.
Sales Cloud and Service Cloud: Where the Value Lands
In SAP Sales Cloud V2, Account Synopsis is primarily a preparation tool. Sales reps use it before meetings, during account handovers, and as part of discovery sessions.
The value is measured in time saved during account planning: SAP’s benchmarks show a reduction from 60 minutes to 30 minutes per account review.
In SAP Service Cloud V2, the same synopsis is surfaced directly to service agents during live customer interactions. Here, the value is different: it is about enabling targeted conversations and spotting cross-sell or upsell opportunities in real-time. SAP’s published metrics point to a 2% increase in cross-sell and upsell revenue for service FTEs.
The Account Plan Executive Summary (Sales Cloud V2)
Many organizations invest significant time maintaining goals, SWOT analyses, revenue targets, action plans, and strategic initiatives, only to create separate documents when leadership reviews or QBRs arrive. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone.
The Executive Summary addresses this problem. Available exclusively in SAP Sales Cloud V2, it converts structured planning information into a concise narrative that can be reviewed, edited, and shared directly from within the Account Plan.
The generated output is organized around four themes:
Account Overview A summary of the customer relationship, strategic positioning, and business objectives.
Customer Priorities and Our Response An explanation of customer goals and how the organization is addressing them.
Risks and Challenges Known risks, dependencies, and potential obstacles.
What’s Upcoming Future engagements and relevant pipeline information.
How to Trigger It
Users navigate to Account Plans → open a plan → select the Executive Summary tab → choose “Generate Summary.” The result is an editable draft that can be copied to clipboard for external use. If a summary was previously generated, it can be viewed or regenerated.
Unlike Account Synopsis, the Executive Summary is fully editable. Users can refine the content, add business context, and save the final version directly inside the plan.
The following figures come from SAP’s Business AI Value Calculator (v3.6, June 2026) and published product pages on the SAP Discovery Center. These are SAP-validated benchmarks based on VLM (Value Lifecycle Management) benchmarks and SAP Expert Estimation.
Does It Actually Work? The Numbers.
Sales Cloud V2 – AI-Assisted Account Synopsis
Metric | Value |
Baseline: Avg. time per account review | 60 minutes |
With AI: Avg. time per account review | 30 minutes (–50%) |
Increase in cross-sell / up-sell rate | +0.5 percentage points |
To put that in perspective, consider an illustrative ROI model for a Consumer Products company with €10 billion in revenue:
Parameter | Value |
Total Sales FTEs | 2,124 |
Accounts per Sales FTE | 30 |
Annual account reviews per FTE | 2 |
Annual planning cost (baseline) | €3,519,760 |
Annual planning cost (with AI) | €1,759,880 (–50%) |
Increase in cross/up-sell operating margin | +€850,000 |
Total annual benefit | €2,609,880 |
Annual AI running cost | €6,246 |
ROI | >410x |
Yes, you read that correctly! The annual AI running cost is €6,246 against a total annual benefit of over €2.6 million. That is not a typo. That is the kind of ROI that makes finance teams do a double take.
Service Cloud V2 – AI-Assisted Account Synopsis
For Service Cloud, the published value metrics tell a different but equally compelling story:
Metric | Value |
Cross-sell and upsell revenue uplift for Service FTEs | 2% increase |
Higher customer satisfaction | Qualitative benefit |
The service-side value proposition is less about time savings and more about revenue capture. When agents understand the customer’s business context during a live interaction, they are better positioned to identify opportunities that would otherwise be invisible.
In the Field: Döhler’s Story
The most publicly documented live deployment is Döhler, a global food and beverage ingredients company with approximately 9,500 employees, €640 million+ in revenue, 3,000+ CRM users, and 27,600 customers. Döhler went live on SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 globally in Q3 2025.
Key facts from their deployment:
- Account Synopsis is live in production alongside Lead Booster, Lead Intelligence/Scoring, Deal Scoring, Case Summary, Case Classification, and Similar Case Recommendation.
- Integration with OpenAI was used to enrich leads and accounts, with market insights such as product shortages surfaced automatically.
- The system delivers “exceptional loading speed and system responsiveness” with “virtually no loading times” even on large account/opportunity objects.
“The usability, performance and productivity gains are excellent. We are excited to deploy SAP’s Sales and Service Cloud V2 in 2025 expanding on the exceptional value to IT, end users, customers and suppliers.”
— Vasiliki Galani, Lead IT & Market Functions, Döhler
Prerequisites and Licensing
Before activating these features, there are a few practical items to check off. This is the part of the article that saves you a support ticket.
Licensing: Both features require a valid SAP AI Units license: specifically the Joule Premium for Customer Experience package. This applies whether you are using Account Synopsis in Sales Cloud V2, Service Cloud V2, or both. Customers must raise an incident with component CEC-CRM-ML confirming their license to enable the features.
Role Assignment: Users need the sap.crm.service.mlScenarioManagementGenAIService role assignment.
Language Support: Generative AI features are tested and supported for English, German, French, and Spanish. Use in other languages is untested and may produce unreliable results. Human review is recommended.
AI Unit Consumption: Each Account Synopsis generation counts as one transaction. Every regeneration also counts as a separate transaction. The same applies to other GenAI features like Lead Booster, Email Drafter, and Survey Trend Summary.
⚠️Note: The Joule Premium for Customer Experience per-user-per-month SKU is currently being retired, as SAP is moving these features into Base AI. If you are signing a new contract or renewing, confirm with your SAP Account Executive whether Account Synopsis is covered under your Base AI entitlement or still requires a separate AI Units purchase before raising an activation incident.
Final Thoughts
The most successful AI capabilities in enterprise software are often the least disruptive.
They do not change how people work. They improve how quickly people can work.
Account Synopsis and Account Plan Executive Summary follow that principle.
Account Synopsis helps both sellers and service agents understand the customer’s world.
Executive Summary helps account teams communicate their strategy.
Neither replaces experience. Neither replaces account knowledge. And neither removes the need for good data.
But when implemented in the right environment with clean data, clear processes, and realistic expectations: both can reduce the distance between information and understanding.
Besides, if an AI can save you from one more “So… tell me about your company” moment – whether you are a seller in a boardroom or an agent on a call – I would say it has already earned its keep.
