At SAP Connect in October 2025 we have Next generation SAP Ariba presented and explained how procurement technology must evolve to meet today’s realities. Today this vision is becoming reality.
I’m pleased to announce that the next generation of SAP Ariba solutions is now available. This marks the next phase of our efforts to redesign the entire procurement process for the age of artificial intelligence. With this milestone, we are implementing our announcements and offering customers a fundamentally newly developed platform.
This was also recognized accordingly in the industry. SAP was ranked as one of the leading providers by Gartner in its 2026 “Magic Quadrant for Source-to-Pay Suites” study. The recognition reflects the importance of next-generation SAP Ariba and underscores our continued focus on platform modernization and AI-based innovation for businesses.
Reconstruction of the technical foundation
As procurement leaders know, AI’s potential is widely recognized, but its value is not always consistently evident. Trust in AI is high, but the results do not depend on algorithms alone. AI is only useful when supported by the right data, processes and platform architecture. We therefore decided to rebuild SAP Ariba from scratch.
The independent analyst firm Ardent Partners describes next-generation SAP Ariba as “a complete redesign of the world’s largest and most established source-to-pay platform” and emphasizes that this did not simply add AI functions to legacy systems. Rather, the architectural foundation was created that is necessary for the reliable and widespread use of AI.
This corresponds to what we hear again and again from customers, namely that sustainable changes require modernization at the core.
An AI-native source-to-pay platform based on the SAP Business Technology Platform
Next generation SAP Ariba is based on the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and offers a uniform database in real time throughout the source-to-pay lifecycle. This allows for closer integration into SAP Cloud ERP applicationsbetter expansion options and faster delivery of innovations.
By moving to SAP BTP, SAP Ariba can support open APIs and data consistency across the suite and has the responsiveness required for intelligent, AI-powered procurement processes – capabilities that are increasingly expected from leading source-to-pay platforms but difficult to achieve on legacy architectures.
Current next-generation capabilities will be rolled out in phases in 2026 and 2027, giving customers the flexibility to innovate based on their business priorities.
Integrated intelligence with Joule: implementing decisions
A key element of next-generation SAP Ariba is the tight integration of joules directly in the procurement workflows. Next-generation SAP Ariba doesn’t treat AI as an optional add-on, but rather has the ability to make workflows smarter out of the box to enable faster and more informed decisions while ensuring smooth daily processes.
Initial features include:
- a Bid analysis agentwhich can automatically evaluate complex bidding scenarios, including total cost considerations
- AI-powered contract support to automate routine inquiries, create summaries and provide instant access to contract details
These capabilities demonstrate the major shift from systems that require constant manual input to platforms that actively support results.
A more unified, intuitive interface for procurement
The next generation of SAP Ariba solutions also eliminates long-standing fragmentation in the lifecycle of the entire procurement process.
Key improvements include:
- SAP Ariba Intake Management: The solution is now available globally and provides a single entry point for all procurement queries
- a simplified user interface based on SAP Fioriwhich is delivered via a central launchpad
- a modernized one Contract lifecyclesupported by integration with Icertis Contract Intelligence
Overall, these improvements are intended to simplify procurement while ensuring that background processes remain consistent, compliant and intelligent.
What this means for customers
For existing SAP Ariba customers, next-generation SAP Ariba offers choice and continuity. Customers benefit from these advantages:
- Voluntary migration to next-generation SAP Ariba
- Access to next-generation features without contractual implications
- Parallel operation of current system environment and next generation system environment during active transition to reduce risk and disruption.
SAP offers tools, services and schedules for a controlled transition so that companies can act with confidence and without pressure to act.

Next-generation SAP Ariba is not the goal in itself, but the foundation for tomorrow’s procurement.
With an AI-native architecture, built-in agent-based intelligence, and a unified user interface, this new generation of SAP Ariba enables companies to not only transact more efficiently, but make smarter decisions, achieve greater resilience, and achieve measurable results.
Ardent Partners noted that this transformation can be viewed as a catalyst – not just for SAP Ariba customers, but for the broader procurement technology landscape. The next generation of SAP Ariba solutions combines scalability, data and AI in a whole new way, demonstrating what modern source-to-pay platforms can offer.
