The new Certificates feature in Talent Intelligence Hub, which is part of the 1H 2026 release, enables organizations to manage certifications within the Growth Portfolio experience. Employees can add and maintain certifications relevant to their roles, while administrators can configure certificate types, validity periods, reminders, and workflows. The feature is designed to support ongoing credential management, improve visibility of employee certifications, and provide a foundation for future integrations and reporting enhancements.

General Setup & Configuration

1. How are certificates stored and managed?

Certificates are created as standard attributes in the Attributes Library and then mapped to employees. Administrators must first configure certificate records in the library.

2. Can users add certificates to their Growth Portfolio themselves?

Yes, provided the certificate already exists in the Attributes Library.

Notifications & Expiry Management

1. How is the expiration date derived?

The expiration date is calculated based on the certificate’s issue date and the validity period configured in the Attributes Library.

2. Are expiry reminder settings global or configurable per certificate?

Current preview setup uses global reminder settings. Future enhancements are expected to allow certificate-level overrides.

3. Can multiple reminder notifications be configured (for example 90, 30, and 7 days)?

Notification timing can be configured, and frequency settings such as daily, weekly or monthly are also available.

4. If a certificate expires, is the attached document automatically deleted?

No. Documents remain stored unless manually removed or overwritten.

Skills, Roles & Growth Portfolio

1. Are skills automatically added when a certificate is earned?

 Yes, Skills mapped to the certificate are added (provided it respects the target criteria) to Employee’s growth portfolio when certificate is added .

2. Can certificates be mass uploaded to employees’ Growth Portfolios?

Planned for future enhancement.

3. Is there a tool for bulk updating certificate data?

Planned for future release.

4. Can certificates be mapped to roles?

Planned for 2H2026 release.

5. Can a certificate be made mandatory for a role?

Planned for 2H2026 release.

6. Is it mandatory to associate a skill with a certificate?

No. Associating a skill with a certificate is optional. Certificates can be created and managed independently without requiring a linked skill.

Storage & Attachments

1. Where are uploaded certificate documents stored?

Documents are stored in the Document Management Service.

2. Is there a storage limit for certificate uploads?

A per-file size limit of 2 MB is allowed now. Overall storage follows tenant licensing/storage settings.

Advanced Scenarios

1. Can an administrator remove an outdated lower-level certification when a higher-level one is earned?

Yes, certificates can be removed from an employee’s Growth Portfolio.

2. Is there support for certification equivalency or higher-level progression?

Under evaluation.

3. What happens if a skill linked to a certificate normally requires workflow approval? Will it be added automatically or go through approval?

If the skill is added through a certificate association, it will be added automatically and will not trigger a workflow approval. Currently, workflow approvals are triggered only when a user directly requests a skill rating change through the UI.

Existing Systems & Migration

1. How does this Certificates feature relate to existing certificate sections in Employee Profile, or to curricula in LMS?

The Certificates feature is currently standalone and does not integrate with existing profile background elements or Learning currently. This is a roadmap item.

2. Can certificates from Employee Profile be migrated automatically?

This is being considered for future enhancement.

3. Can certificates already stored in employee documents be imported automatically?

Currently, the Certificates feature operates independently and does not integrate with Employee Profile background elements or Learning.

Integrations

1. Is integration with Learning available?

Considered for future roadmap.

2. Can third-party vendors automatically fetch certificates?

Not currently supported.

3. Can certificates from TIH be stored in external document management systems?

Currently out of scope

Reporting & Analytics

1.Is reporting available for certificates?

The Talent Intelligence Hub schema available for Story Reports now includes the new Certificate attribute. For additional details please refer to Available Data (Schema) in Story Report | SAP Help

 2. Is integration with Learning Analytics dashboards planned?

No current plans have been confirmed.

Access & User Scope

1. Are certificates available to external users or onboardees?

Not currently supported.

2. Are certificate workflows available without an Employee Central license?

Yes. Certificate workflows are based on MDF workflows, which are part of the foundational platform services and do not depend on an Employee Central license.
