The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is rapidly moving from policy to reality, with enforcement deadlines approaching in August 2026. For companies placing products on the EU market, compliance is no longer optional—it’s business-critical.

With the latest updates in SAP Responsible Design and Production, SAP is delivering powerful new capabilities to help customers stay ahead of PPWR requirements and transform compliance into a strategic advantage.

What’s New in the Latest PPWR Release

The latest RDP release introduces an integrated set of capabilities that enable end‑to‑end PPWR compliance.

1. Extended Packaging Data Model

SAP has enhanced the packaging data model to cover:

  • Packaging Elements and Packaging Composition descriptions for all languages required for the Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
  • Compliance status at Packaging Elements and Packaging Composition level for PPWR Article 5.4 and 5.5
  • Product Contact information for Packaging Elements

2. Centralized Packaging Compliance Documentation

SAP Responsible Design and Production now enables customers to:

  • Store test reports, audit documents, and certificates
  • Link supporting evidence directly to packaging elements
  • Maintain all compliance content in a single system

This ensures that Declarations of Conformity are backed by auditable evidence, improving trust and regulatory readiness.

3. Ready-to-Use Declaration of Conformity (DoC) Templates

To accelerate compliance readiness:

  • Preconfigured DoC templates are now available out-of-the-box, go here for more details
  • Supported in multiple languages (EN, DE, FR, ES, IT, NL)
  • Coming soon*: Fully customizable templates to meet company-specific needs

These templates significantly reduce effort and provide a fast path to generating compliant documentation.

4. Conformity Assessment & DoC Generation

A key innovation is the ability to:

  • Analyze and review packaging data in a consolidated view
  • Identify missing compliance information
  • Generate Declarations of Conformity efficiently

This end‑to‑end flow allows customers to move from raw data to validated compliance output at SKU level.

5. Coming Soon*: Packaging Data Collaboration

We recognise that critical packaging data often resides with suppliers. A new capability in Responsible Design and Production will soon enable companies to request and receive this data directly from suppliers, supported by integration with SAP Sustainability Data Exchange (SDX).

This will help customers bridge data gaps and improve data completeness—a key challenge highlighted by many organizations.
