The May 2026 release of SAP Business Network for Logistics delivers key innovations across both SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration and SAP Business Network Global Track and Trace. These enhancements focus on improving collaboration, increasing transparency in execution, and strengthening system performance and integration reliability.
Below, we highlight the most important innovations following the structure of this release.
Cross SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration and SAP Business Network Global Track and Trace
EDI processing logic enhanced
The EDI processing logic has been improved to ensure smoother and more reliable data exchange. Files that fail due to unrecoverable validation errors—such as incorrect or missing identifiers—are now automatically deleted from the carrier SFTP server. At the same time, processing continues immediately with subsequent valid files, while error details remain available in the ‘Manage Integration Logs’ application.
Business benefit: This enhancement prevents processing bottlenecks and ensures uninterrupted data flow, reducing delays and minimizing manual effort required to resolve integration issues.
Event tracking of gate hold ups completed
A gate hold occurs when a truck has physically arrived at the facility but is prevented from completing the check-in /check-out process to enter the yard or dock area. The holds are typically categorized in Documentation, Scheduling, Operational or Compliance.
With the introduction of the new event type GateOut_Hold (Gate Check-Out on Hold), it is now possible to fully capture and monitor delays at the gate.
The event can be reported in the ‘Manage Gate Operations’ (FC) or ‘Track Shipments’ (GTT) apps (as well as via API).
The events reported via ‘Track Shipments’ application in GTT can be viewed in the tracking timeline and the events tables. A reported gate on hold can set the status of a shipment to ‘In Execution’. Solution owners may adapt this logic in the event to action scripts.
The events are also synchronized with the ‘Manage Freight Execution’ app. This ensures that all stakeholders are informed when shipments are delayed due to operational, scheduling, compliance, or documentation issues.
Business benefit: Shippers gain end-to-end visibility into execution delays, enabling faster reaction times, improved planning accuracy, and more transparent communication with logistics partners.
Adaptations in ‘System Connections’ app regarding the sunset of SAP BTP, Neo environment
To support the transition to SAP BTP Multi-Cloud, the Integration Platform dropdown has been removed from the ‘System Connections’ app. All connections now run on the Multi-Cloud environment, and existing carrier inbound connections are automatically migrated.
SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration
Enhancement of carrier collaboration options
Carrier collaboration is expanded through EDI-based freight tendering, now supporting ANSI X12 message types 840 (Request for Quotation), 843 (Response), and 864 (Award notification).
This allows carriers to participate in tendering processes choosing between collaboration via Web UI, API or EDI. Message Implementation Guidelines have been published to support carriers.
Business benefit: Organizations can onboard more carriers faster, reduce integration complexity, and enable seamless collaboration using widely adopted EDI standards.
SAP Business Network Global Track and Trace
Instance-based authorization
A new field, ‘OrderingPartyInternalID’, has been introduced in the tracked process, mapped with the parameter ‘InternalID’ and sent to the ’Manage Freight Execution’ app. This supports more granular, instance-based authorization.
Business benefit: This enhancement strengthens data access control and allows organizations to define more precise authorization rules, improving security and governance across logistics processes.
Usability and performance improved in fulfillment tracking apps
Several improvements have been introduced to enhance usability and efficiency across all fulfillment tracking apps. Key fields such as ‘Unplanned Event’, ‘Event Reason Code’, ‘Location Type’, ‘Transportation Means’, and ‘Code List’ now support free text input with intelligent suggestions. So users can quickly find values instead of navigating long dropdown lists.
Business benefit: These improvements significantly reduce the time required for event reporting and increase data entry accuracy, resulting in more efficient operations.
New location update logic to improve performance
The handling of location updates has been redesigned to improve system performance. This results in faster map loading and an overall better experience in tracking applications.
The feature is automatically available for new customers, while existing customers can opt for migration to benefit from the enhanced logic. To do so, create a ticket under the component SBN-LBN-GTT-COR to get migration support. Please note that the migration is irreversible.
Main differences compared to prior map:
- Map logic based on new GTTGeoUpdateEvent
- Map overview mode appears when a shipment has more than 5 tracking units.
- The current location is shown by an arrow icon for the last reported stop, and when completed it is shown as solid dot. In the legacy text, the current location is described as a flashing dot.
- The overview shows current positions of tracking units that are still in transit, with a number beside the arrow if several are at the same or nearby location (no completed units anymore)

Business benefit: Users benefit from faster response times and improved performance when monitoring shipments, especially in high-volume or complex logistics scenarios.
