What if SAP Commerce could understand relationships, not just expose data?
We have APIs for products, carts, orders, customers and promotions. We have integrations connecting these systems. But when someone asks a seemingly simple question — “A product is unavailable. Which customers, carts and orders could be affected, and why?” — answering it can quickly become a complex exercise in connecting data across multiple entities.
Could an ontology and knowledge graph provide a different way to look at this problem?
In this article, I explore the idea of a Semantic Intelligence Layer for SAP Commerce — connecting business concepts, relationships and context to make cross-entity questions easier to understand and investigate.
This is not about replacing APIs or databases. It is about exploring what becomes possible when we make business relationships explicit.
