From Two Major Releases a Year to One — With a Purpose
Until now, SAP Service and Asset Manager shipped on a cadence of two major releases per year. We are moving to a new model:
1 Major release + 3 Minor releases per year
This is not a slowdown. It is a deliberate shift in how we think about delivering value. Here is what the new model means in practice:
– Minor releases carry fewer new features — they focus on fixes, refinements, and incremental improvements
– No MDK version update in minor releases (security patches excepted) — the underlying Mobile Development Kit stays stable between major releases
– Mobile backend updates in major and 2nd minor release – Providing two crisp client-only upgrades
For customers and partners, this means a much more predictable upgrade experience. Minor releases are safe and lightweight. Major releases are the moments where new capabilities and platform upgrades arrive.
The Release Roadmap

MDK Stabilization: One Upgrade Per Year
The Mobile Development Kit (MDK) is the technical foundation that SSAM is built on. Under the new strategy, MDK version upgrades are aligned exclusively with major releases — meaning one upgrade per year at most.
For anyone who has managed SSAM deployments, this matters. It means your environment stays on a known, stable MDK version between major cycles. No unexpected changes mid-year. No cascading compatibility issues you didn't plan for.
What You Should Do Now
If you are on an earlier SSAM version or planning a new deployment, the roadmap above gives you a clear view of what is coming and when — use it to align your project timeline with the right release.
