SAP Business Network for Logistics
SAP Business Network for Logistics continues to strengthen collaboration and visibility across transportation networks with several important updates in Release 2608.
Enhanced EDI Documentation Support
- The release introduces expanded support for special handling codes in both ANSI X12 and EDIFACT formats. For ANSI 204, the existing NTE segment now maps with code SPH, enabling customers to transmit special handling requirements through standardized transportation messages. Similarly, EDIFACT IFTMIN format has been enhanced with SPH as a new code list item. These improvements extend existing API functionality to EDI documents, making it easier to communicate critical handling instructions across the supply chain.
- Additionally, ANSI 204 and ANSI 840 now support US Ounce (OZA) mapping for Liter (LT/V). When the source volume unit is OZA, it is automatically mapped to V (Liter) with appropriate conversion to preserve the original quantity, addressing a limitation in the ANSI X12 204 Volume Unit Qualifier.
Expanded Data Center Availability
- SAP Business Network for Logistics can now be hosted in a Google Cloud data center in Iowa, US, providing customers with additional options for data residency and performance optimization. Organizations managing personal data in this data center can subscribe to the SAP Data Privacy Integration Next Generation service for enhanced data privacy capabilities.
Improved Event Tracking and Reporting
- A new event type, “TRACK_INIT_ERROR” (Tracking Start Failed), allows visibility providers to report when tracking cannot be initiated. This event appears in the Events table but is not synchronized back to Transportation Management embedded in SAP S/4HANA by default. Additionally, the Events table now includes a Reporting Party column, giving users clear visibility into which stakeholder—carrier, visibility provider, or solution owner—reported each event.
