Introducing new 'Monitor Alerts' application in SAP Asset Performance Management

Alex starts every shift the same way. Open Monitor Alerts, scan the queue, figure out what needs attention. On a quiet day that takes ten minutes. On a bad day, it takes all morning – not because the alerts are complex, but because getting the full picture means bouncing between applications, chasing down who looked at something last, and eventually giving up and just starting from scratch.

Alert management sounds simple in theory. An indicator breaches a threshold, an alert is raised, someone investigates, and maintenance action follows. In practice, it is rarely that clean.

The alert exists, but who owns it? What happened before it was raised? Has anyone already acted on it? Where is the full picture of this asset's health? The old Monitor Alerts application gave you the alert. Getting answers to those questions meant going elsewhere.

In release 2610, SAP Asset Performance Management introduces a significantly improved Monitor Alerts experience – rebuilt on the SAP Cloud Application Programming (CAP) framework. That is not just a technical detail. CAP is what makes the application extensible, structured, and ready to grow with your process. And it is what enables the new capabilities that ship alongside it.

A complete workflow, in one place

Start with context

Alex glances at the Monitor Alerts tile on his Fiori launchpad to see how many brand new alerts are waiting.  Today there are 19 new alerts waiting.

A VIBRATION_SURGE alert has landed in Alex's queue. A centrifugal pump has a sudden spike in vibration, and this is not the first time. Before deciding anything, Alex needs to know whether this is a recurring pattern or an isolated event – and what the pump's broader health looks like right now.

The new Monitor Alerts application answers that without making you leave it. The Indicator Monitoring tab now includes an Additional Information section with a direct link to the Explore Technical Objects application. One click opens all associated alerts and the full indicator chart for that technical object, in a new tab. You stay in context. You get the data you need to make a call.

He can also now navigate directly from Monitor Alerts to the corresponding S/4HANA Maintenance Notification. No switching between systems manually, and no searching for the right record.

Put someone in charge

Alex investigates and it is clear this one needs a closer look – but Alex is heading into a planning meeting in twenty minutes. Someone else needs to pick it up.

The new Assigned To field lets you designate a processor for each alert directly in Monitor Alerts. Everyone on the team can see who is handling what, which means less duplication and fewer things falling through the gaps.

The alert does not sit in a shared queue waiting for someone to claim it. It has an owner.

Know exactly what happened

Later that day, a colleague asks about the same pump unit. Alex pulls up the alert and everything is there – who looked at it, when the status changed, what follow-up was linked.

Every change to an alert is now recorded in a dedicated Change Log tab. Status updates, reassignments, linked follow-up actions – all of it is captured automatically. If you need to understand what happened to an alert and when, the answer is right there.

Turn insights into action without switching systems

The pattern is confirmed. This pump needs a maintenance notification. Alex used to have to open S/4HANA separately, find the right equipment record, and create the notification from scratch.

Now you can create a Maintenance Notification in SAP S/4HANA directly from Monitor Alerts. And when you do, you can optionally set a Detection Method – a field that captures how the failure was discovered. Was it flagged during a planned inspection? Picked up by condition monitoring? That information feeds back into failure analysis and helps teams improve how they detect and respond over time.

Built to be extended

Alex works in a large industrial operation with workflows and terminology that do not map perfectly to any out-of-the-box application. That used to mean workarounds.

Because Monitor Alerts is built on CAP, it supports SaaS extensibility. If your organization needs to adapt the application to specific workflows, add custom fields, or integrate with other services, the Cloud Application Programming framework gives you the foundation to do that in a structured, upgrade-safe way.

To sum up

By the time Alex closes out for the day, the queue looks different. Alerts have owners. The change log shows exactly what happened and when. A maintenance notification is already in S/4HANA. And nothing fell through the cracks.

Better navigation. Clear ownership. Full traceability. Direct integration with SAP S/4HANA. And a foundation built for the future.
