What’s New for SAP Integrated Product Development: March 2026
Welcome to the March 2026 blog! This update introduces powerful enhancements designed to accelerate innovation, strengthen collaboration, and improve efficiency across the product lifecycle. With expanded engineering capabilities and deeper integration with SAP and partner solutions, it further enhances how teams work together—from concept through manufacturing and beyond.
Collaboration
Status–Based Workflow Automation in Configure Collaborations App
As a Business Administrator, you can now configure status-based workflow assignments that enable the system to automatically trigger predefined workflows when a collaboration reaches a specific status.
For example, when a collaboration is marked as Completed, the system can automatically initiate the workflow “Notify All Collaboration Administrators.”
The Configure Collaborations app now includes a dedicated section called Status–Workflow Automation. This feature allows you to seamlessly map collaboration statuses to corresponding workflows.

Product Data Integration
Design Items Explorer App Enhancement
The Design Items Explorer app has been enhanced to provide greater flexibility and usability. Users can now:
- Assign an existing product to a design item that does not yet have a linked product
- Download design item files directly by clicking on the file name link
These updates streamline your workflow and reduce manual steps — available now.

Product Data Integration
Structure Relationships
The Design Items Explorer app now provides enhanced visibility into the structure relationships between design items:
- Child Relationships: Display dependencies on other design items required to load the design item in the authoring system
- Parent Relationships: Show how the design item is used across other design item

Specification Management
Alternative Units of Measure for specifications
When the Base UoM and Alternative UoM option is enabled in the Specification Types app, the system allows you to maintain multiple units of measure for a specification within the specification created using that specification type in the Manage Specifications application.
As a result:
- The Base Unit of Measure field becomes available
- The Alternative Unit of Measure table is displayed

Comparison of composition based on real values
Previously comparison of composition in the main view of the Compare Specifications app was based on item numbers. Now the comparison is based on the actual composition values instead.

Visualization
New cross-section settings in Viewer
You can now access enhanced cross-section controls directly from the Viewer toolbar. A new Settings option in the Cross Section dropdown allows you to customize how cross sections are displayed.
With this enhancement, you can:
- Show or hide the outline and capping
- Customize their colors
- Adjust the outline width
- Control the visibility of the editing user interface
