SAP and Google Cloud look back on a long history of successful cooperation. Together they enable companies around the world to transform their business data into valuable knowledge and thus optimize processes in finance, supply chains and other areas.
In 2023, the two tech giants set up a strategic partnership to support companies even more comprehensively to exploit the full potential of their data. The focus of the partnership is now on the SAP Business Data Cloud. This is a fully managed SaaS solution that standardized and manages all SAP data and establishes a seamless connection to data from third-party providers. With the connection of BigQuery, Google’s autonomous data-to-KI platform with agent-based functions, supported by Gemini and SAP Business Data Cloud, Google Cloud and SAP companies want to support all sizes in gaining insights into their company data landscape and using new functions for generative AI.
Strong basis for partnership in the field of analysis
SAP and Google Cloud enabled the integration between SAP Datasphere and BigQuery. This integration is an essential cornerstone when expanding the partnership between SAP and Google Cloud, especially with regard to the SAP Business Data Cloud. The aim of the collaboration is to enable customers to access bigquery data in SAP Business Data Cloud and to ensure data exchange in both directions. By expanding the functions for the mutual data federation, which were introduced with SAP Datasphere, customers can link different data records and gain extensive insights without having to create and manage complex ETL pipelines (extract, transform, load).
Our goal is to enable all companies to optimize data integration and data science, to improve their analytical work processes and to accelerate their transformation into a AI-controlled company. By bundling the strengths of Google Cloud and SAP, customers receive more precise and meaningful insights faster – ensured by intelligent automation and generating completely new content.
Drive innovations with uniform data in SAP Business Data Cloud and BigQuery
A cornerstone of this cooperation is the seamless connectivity between the SAP data solutions and the powerful data platform from Google Cloud. By integrating SAP Business Data Cloud and BigQuery, it makes it easier for customers to carry out business analyzes across their entire databases. You are given the opportunity to standardize SAP and non-SAP data and thus gain insightful insights. And thanks to generative AI, you can implement innovations faster. The most important functions include:
- Seamless data federation: Direct integration of data from Enterprise Data Warehouses with SAP data in SAP Datasphere by queries in BigQuery. With BigQuery, data can be queried in SAP Datasphere and displayed in the preview. This integration function makes it possible to use overarching data strategies.
- Efficient bidirectional replication: Refinitely replication of data between SAP systems and BigQuery using replication flows from SAP, which improve performance and reduce query bottlenecks.
SAP Business Data Cloud should be available in three Google cloud regions from the second quarter of 2025, including India, Frankfurt and Iowa. More will follow in the coming year.
Success reports: achieve added value today
Common customers of Google Cloud and SAP already benefit from the seamless integration between SAP Datasphere and BigQuery. Power International is an example of this. The Northern European electronics retailer has used the integrated solutions to modernize its reporting processes in sales. With SAP Datasphere, BigQuery and Dataform for the automation of the sales pipeline, Power International has developed a solution for real-time analysis of sales reports and thus replaces the reports in the form of static PDF files. Power International now benefits from more informed and meaningful business insights that are available on demand and help the company increase sales performance.
Drive future integration and innovation
SAP and Google Cloud continue to expand their existing partnership and their cooperation in the context of SAP Business Data Cloud in order to be able to offer their common customers a wide range of analysis and AI functions. This approach enables customers to use the comprehensive suite of SAP data solutions and to integrate with the extensive data sets in BigQuery, regardless of whether it is private, common or publicly accessible data.
Customers also have the option of expanding the AI functions available in SAP Business Data Cloud with AI applications based on Google Cloud. This is used: Gemini-Google’s industry-leading AI model-as well as AI models from third-party providers that are available via Vertex AI. The aim of this initiative is to provide pre -configured, intelligent data products that shorten the time to add value and use the strengths of both platforms in common business scenarios.
