At this year's SAP Sapphire in Orlando, Florida, SAP and Amazon Web Services (AWS) today announced plans to develop the SAP Business Data Cloud Connect solution for Amazon Athena – a new offering that will enable two-way, copy-free integration between Amazon Athena and SAP Business Data Cloud (SAP BDC).
Building on their long-standing partnership, AWS and SAP make it easier for customers to access mission-critical SAP data products in AWS services, including Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Quick and Amazon SageMaker. This enables teams to deliver self-service analytics and develop AI agents across business areas without waiting for IT teams to replicate, prepare, and deploy data.

Through SAP BDC Connect, the integration ensures near real-time, copy-free access to SAP data products with rich semantics directly via Amazon Athena. This means that data remains where it is stored, the original business context is preserved and delays caused by replication are avoided. Customers can query and analyze this data immediately or store and transform it for use in the broader AWS environment. This gives teams a controlled, secure environment in AWS to easily create reports, dashboards, and AI agents.

SAP Business Data Cloud is already available on AWS in the US East (Northern Virginia), Europe (Frankfurt), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Canada (Central), Asia Pacific (Sydney), South America (São Paulo), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Singapore) regions, and in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
