Groundbreaking collaboration redefines enterprise data management and unlocks the full potential of agent-based AI.
New York, February 13, 2025 – SAP today announced SAP Business Data Cloud, a groundbreaking solution that brings together all SAP and third-party data in one company. It creates a reliable database that companies can use to make better decisions and make AI results more reliable. The solution harmonizes data from companies' mission-critical applications with data engineering and business analytics capabilities. This enables deeper insights into a company and promotes innovation.
With the pioneering partnership A new era in enterprise data management begins between SAP and Databricks, with two market leaders working together to redefine collaboration between applications and data platforms. Databricks technologies for data engineering, machine learning and AI workloads are already integrated into the new solution.
“SAP Business Data Cloud allows business data to be optimally used for enterprise AI,” said Christian Klein, CEO of SAP SE. “The groundbreaking solution combines SAP's unparalleled expertise in business-critical, end-to-end processes and data with rich semantics with Databricks' outstanding expertise in data engineering. This helps companies get even more out of their data.”
“Every company wants to get greater value from their data and AI investments,” said Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks. By working with SAP, we help companies bring together all their data – regardless of format or storage location – to control, analyze and develop specialist AI applications on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform.”
Use of data products
SAP Business Data Cloud also helps SAP advance the use and combination of data products in companies. The solution provides fully managed SAP data products for all business processes – from financial, spend and supply chain data in SAP S/4HANA and SAP Ariba to training and employee data in SAP SuccessFactors solutions. The original business context and semantics are preserved in these data products. They make it possible to immediately access high-quality data without having to extract it at great expense. For example, if a CFO wants to assess how rising inflation is impacting profitability, SAP Business Data Cloud connects real-time external data such as the Consumer Price Index with financial data products such as general ledger accounts or cost centers to provide a comprehensive view of current financial health.
SAP Business Data Cloud will also provide so-called insight apps as an innovation. These use data products and AI models that use real-time data. Complex evaluations and information allow planning in all business areas, including for central company analyzes or in finance and human resources management.
“SAP Business Data Cloud will help us get maximum value from our data and drive innovation across the company,” said Markus Hartmann, corporate vice president, head of business technology and head of Europe, APAC and IMEA at Henkel, a multinational consumer goods and adhesives company. “SAP's data products with diverse semantics and the tight integration of Databricks will improve our own data products. This will then enable us to model scenarios and gain AI-driven insights. This strengthens the future viability of our data ecosystems.”
Unleash the full potential of AI agents
Through SAP Business Data Cloud, Joule, the SAP assistant with generative AI, can accelerate cross-functional workflows and accelerate decision-making in companies using AI agents. Joule agents use the highest quality business data in the industry and the SAP Knowledge Graph solution, which provides a user-friendly data model. This gives you extensive knowledge of end-to-end processes and allows you to work together across functional areas to solve complex challenges in companies. No other agent creation technology can do this right out of the box.
To highlight today's announcement and its importance for AI innovation, SAP also introduced a range of ready-to-use Joule agents for finance, service, sales and future areas in the SAP Business Suite. For example, agents in finance will collaborate on a variety of tasks to process claims faster and improve cash flow. In sales, however, Joule agents will accelerate multi-stage business processes in order to resolve disputes more quickly and deal with customer inquiries more quickly.
SAP today also introduced a powerful new agent development capability that allows customers to create and deploy their own AI agents in addition to SAP's ready-to-use Joule agents. SAP's decades of experience in business processes are incorporated into the interactive workflow so that users can provide the most relevant data and valuable business context to their individual agents.
